Really good deal for the Pirates... as Brad said, they needed to clear up some room for McCutcheon to make his arrival in CF everyday... He's hitting .300+ in AAA and he's the future.. plus, they get 3 Prospects... one of which is a top prospect in the Braves organization... seems, the Pirates are finally taking this serious... they have the 2 best 16 year olds in the Dominican at their camp down there... and they drafted Alvarez last year as a cornerstone 3B...
I also like the deal for the Braves.. McClouth is cheap (for his production) and still has 2 more years left on his deal... He'll be a great 2-6 hitter in a lineup with protection (like Francoeur, Chipper, and McCann)... good deal...

I actually like what I hear from the new guys in charge... they brought over a bunch of guys from Minnesota and some other small markets that know what they're doing... They drafted well last year and finally started taking Latin America serious... not saying they'll be in the playoffs anytime soon, but they are turning the corner as a franchise and front office at least, I believe....

Nyger's been starting in LF... he probably will until he stops being productive... he's been much better than I ever thought he'd be... he's ultimately not the answer in LF, but he could be a very good bench player with his speed and his defensive abilities...

I heard a couple of years back, that the Pirates were the most profitable team in baseball... is there any truth to that... obviously it would have to do with there lack of payroll.

That's an interesting bit of news. As I posted earlier, I firmly believe that smaller market teams can absolutely be successful, but they have to be really really smart about their baseball operations and scouting. I'd love to see the Bucs back in the thick of things again. I'm quite sure that if they could raise their level of success that the attendance would certainly follow.

Hopefully the attendance can rise because when the Cards play in Pittsburgh, half the fans are Cards fans. I find it quite sad too because Pittsburgh supports their other pro teams very well

Not sure about the MOST profitable, but they were near the top every season while not having a winning record for 15+ years... Their lack of payroll combined with attendance (which was good when the new PNC Park first opened) and the luxury tax that the big market teams were paying made the Pirates routinely profit around $25-30 million per year during at least the 2000s... what a sad pathetic competitiveness from ownership to just making money while making everyone else suffer..

Like you said, the Steelers have sold out every game in Heinz Field history and the Penguins have sold out every home hockey game for 2+ years... the fans love the Pirates and will come out... but not at the expense of around $100 per family to watch a 7-0 blowout loss.....

This might be one of those trades that actually does fit the old adage that a trade should be good for both parties.
This one trade makes the Braves better. But to really compete with the Phils they need another bat, or someone like Frenchy is going to have to turn it around. There has been little indication that this is going to happen.
The Braves can hang in there with their starting pitching, but there is so much pressure on them to give up 1 or 2 runs that it is not condusive to long winning streaks.
I hope the Pirates can turn it around finally after all these years. One of my favorite towns and I like all their pro teams.

Well in McCutcheon's debut the Bucs routed the the Mets and McCutcheon had a great game. At least that's another game the Mets fall behind the Phils! ;D

Yeah, it talked a lot about them expanding their Latin America budget. Also the whole not signing anybody that Rosenhaus represented. It's looking like they're about to start putting some things together...

So you would be considered in the group of teams that in the last 5-6 years have learned from teams like the Twins and A's in regards to scouting and minor league development and have made the necessary changes.

Nate McLouth just stole his 28th consecutive base. That is amazing stuff. In his career he is 65 for 70 and has only been thrown out by a catcher one time. Just adding him to the lineup adds power and speed, neither of which is a Braves forte`
