I don't think it is their NBC deal as much as they are the most storied program in College Football History. They get a bump because of that. They aren't the only one that gets a bump. At the end of the year, if Alabama, Miss State and Georgia are all 11-1, guess who will be highest ranked? If USC, Oregon and Utah are 11-1? If Texas, Texas Tech and Kansas are 11-1? Pretty damn simple.
Throw in that Notre Dame has played Stanford, Michigan and FSU. They outplayed FSU in Tally. They are going to get a boost. Everyone talks about how they were overrated two years ago. Maybe, but they beat Oklahoma, Michigan and USC...they didn't play McNeese State.
Does their TV deal help? Sure, some. But they have that tradition and they play "name" schools and not a whole host of cupcakes like other teams play. And right now there are multiple 1 loss teams ranked higher than ND.

That deal ND has has been in place since 90 I think. ND hasn't won a National title since then. Maybe because they haven't fielded a team capable of wknning it on the field. I think that's actually the key....being able to win it on the field. Hype alone will not get you the NC. At least the way I see it But it's kept them in the discussion. As Pelini points out, his 6-1 team that hasn't won a title in two decades is ranked nine spots lower. Every time Notre Dame looks competitive they rocket to the top of the polls. It's not hard to draw the conclusion that their constant TV presence plays at least some role in that. Exactly what has Nebraska done to be ranked up with ND or any other 1 loss team? Where would you have Nebraska based on their body of work ? Maybe if Pelini was more concerned with his team they wouldn't drop at least 4 games every year.

It isn't a big deal, right now. It does set the stage for might be. He isn't alone. It will be very entertaining about this time next week after this first ranking comes out.

Sets the stage for conspiracy theorist abound. The same theories we would hear if the playoff was on nbc and notre dame was picked as the fourth team in a playoff we would hear about the television network impacting the playoff because it's on their network.
