So as you guys probably know, I was in the Seychelles last week. It was calm and relaxing and wonderful. I also had the best Tuna steak I have ever had in my life, bought from a vendor in a tent at a little farmer’s market type thing. I would write more but I’m waiting for the long awaited (by no one) return of the ‘Frican Blog.
Anyway, I returned to work after a week away to a new employee which is always fun. I also got to play with the Secretary of the Navy. Speaking of visitors, next Saturday (11/8) is the Marine Corps Ball and the keynote speaker is someone very cool that is coming in just for that purpose. I get to escort him and his wife to various events next Thursday, Friday and Saturday. I can’t quite say who yet.
This week is also Halloween. Yesterday at the Embassy we had 70 kids come trick or treating. It was (somewhat) controlled chaos. A lot of the offices decorated and handed out candy, which led to some amusing comments and questions from the Locally Employed Staff, who weren’t entirely sure what to make of the whole thing, and couldn’t quite understand why there was fake blood, ghosts and demons all over the place.
Anyway, the first playoff rankings are out, so I guess this means the season is getting serious. Or, you know, not, since whatever they are this week they will not be in the end. I’m still not convinced they should have released rankings at all, but oh well.
So, in honor of Halloween week…pumpkins.
Friday
2:00 a.m.
Florida State @ Louisville- I am not sure why this game is even being played, as the final Louisville 31 FSU 20 score is already known. That being said, to quote Brad “I only watching meaningful games”. 3 pumpkins
Saturday
6:30 p.m.
Air Force @ Army- Air Force wins the CinC trophy and becomes bowl eligible. TN is happy. 1 pumpkin.
7:00 p.m.
Wisconsin @ Rutgers- Rutgers suffers their 3rd blowout loss in a row. 3 pumpkins.
Duke @ Pittsburgh- Duke is leading the ACC Coastal. No really. Also, the Royals made the World Series and the Mississippi schools are kicking butt. Expect the asteroid to hit any day now. I thought this Duke nonsense would end last week against Virginia, but they held on for the win. It won’t end this week either. 3 pumpkins.
10:30 p.m.
Florida @ Georgia- and I use the term “@” very loosely. I went to the WLOCP once. I partied with UF04 (anybody remember him?) before the game, but I wasn’t drunk enough to make the asskicking that the Gators laid on UGA very interesting. Actually, the night before the game was far more interesting- dinner with Tony, Hunt and Wolfe, and watching them drool over my niece. No Wolfe, you still can’t have her number. Anyway, UGA just got screwed out of the best player in the nation, but it won’t matter. 4 pumpkins.
Purdue @ Nebraska- Purdue is bad. Nebraska is not. Nebraska is 7th in the nation in rushing. Purdue is 81st in defense against the run. Abdullah had 225 yards against Rutgers last week. This could get real ugly. 3 pumpkins.
TCU @ WV- Raise your hand if after Week 9 of the season you had K State, West Virginia and TCU 1-2-3 in the B12. The next three weeks may determine the B12 with TCU @ WV this week, K State @ TCU next week and K State @ WV the week after. With K State closing the season @ Baylor and WV hosting TCU and K State, and already having beaten Baylor, my money is on WV (There Goose, I said it, now where’s that $10 you promised me?). 5 pumpkins.
Sunday
2:00 a.m.
Auburn @ Ole Miss- While none of you have your hands up, keep them down because not a one of you had Miss. State and Ole Miss 1-2 after Week 9 either. Ole Miss is coming off their first loss of the season, in which they only scored 7 against LSU. They will not lose two in a row. 5 pumpkins.
2:15 a.m.
Arkansas @ Mississippi State- Remember when Arkansas beat Texas Tech and Northern Illinois and people were clamoring for them to be ranked? Then they started actually playing real teams. Thank god for UAB or they may have closed the season on an 8 game losing streak. As it is, they lost 3 straight. This game starts another losing streak, one that will likely go until the end of the season. 3 pumpkins.
3:00 a.m.
Notre Dame @ Navy- Notre Dame could be undefeated. OK, Notre Dame SHOULD be undefeated. There will be a week where they lose again. This won’t be it. 3 pumpkins.
5:30 a.m.
Arizona @ UCLA- Amongst the (mostly deserved) hype for the SEC West, the Pac 12 South has quietly supplanted the Pac 12 North as the second best division in CFB. UCLA at 6-2 is sitting in 5th place. Three 6-1 teams sit on top of the division, with $C in 4th based on being 4-2 IC to UCLA’s 3-2. Those 5 teams have 1 OOC loss. This game and the next on this list will go a long way towards determining the division, because in the Pac we beat each other up week in and week out. UCLA is about where I thought they would be, so why does the season seem like a disappointment? Meanwhile, Arizona is one of the surprise teams of the season, and were it not for a wide-right 36 yard FG they would be ranked in the Top 5. 5 pumpkins.
6:00 a.m.
Utah @ Arizona State- Another surprise team who is thisclose to undefeated Top 5ness. How do you blow a 24-7 halftime lead, getting outscored 21-3 in the 2nd half? How badly are they kicking themselves right now? ASU meanwhile, must be replaying that 20 minutes of hell over and over in their minds. 5 pumpkins.
Tape Delayed non-ranked Games
Sunday
10 a.m.
Oklahoma State @ K State- The end is coming for the Snyders.
3:00 p.m.
Stanford @ Oregon- The winner of this game has won the last 4 P12 Championships with Oregon winning the first two and Stanford winning the last two (Oregon also won in 2009 even though they lost to Stanford). The Ducks break Stanford’s streak.
6:00 p.m.
Illinois @ tOSU- Illinois is not good. This game won’t be either.
