UF QB facing misdemeanor charge
By Robbie Andreu Staff writer Friday, December 19, 2014 10:42 AM
Starting Florida quarterback Treon Harris is facing a second-degree misdemeanor charge for operating a motor vehicle without a valid license. According to court records, Harris has never had a license.
A citation was filed on Tuesday by University Police.
Harris has an arraignment date set for Jan. 15 at the Alachua County Courthouse.
Harris' attorney, Huntley Johnson, said Harris is in the process of trying to secure a driver's license.
“I think as soon as he gets his license, the charge probably will be dismissed,” Johnson said. “That's the way it's usually handled in a case like this for a citizen, and he's a citizen.”
Florida is practicing for its Jan. 3 bowl date against East Carolina.

It's a traffic citation. 200 probably happened in the time it took me to type this. It's not like he said naughty words out loud in front of college kids. There's still hope. The pattern is the media needs to get a life. (I can't believe the media has reduced me to "defending" a Gator. Dear God. Help us all.) He has never had a drivers license.

Sets a wonderful precedent. We, FSU, will gladly keep taking the best and brightest. A new coach deciding on which guy he wants as his QB. Things like this at not help Treon.

Is it possible he had a learner's permit and was just driving in violation of not having a licensed passenger? It says he was trying to get a license.

You would think the Gator Coaches would have checked all their players for licenses, valid licenses and expired licenses.

What is amazing to me is the number of kids who wait to get their license. I was at the driver license office at 9:00 AM on my 16th birthday. I have nieces and nephews who waited until they were 19 or 20. And a lot of their friends are the same.

The comparison between Athens and Gainesville has never been more clear. I actually envy UF and the standards they get to live by.

I'm not yet saying he should kicked off the team. He is just showing a pattern of not making good decisions, and putting himself in situations that don't have good results. I won't be surprised if he transfers, and wouldn't blame him.

I'm just being sarcastic with the "kick him off the team" comment. However, I'm being sincere when I say he hasn't impressed me. I really don't think the Gators will be successful with him as starting QB.

Seems that new details are emerging.........................................Marijuana found in car
Florida QB Treon Harris faces misdemeanor charge after traffic stop
By Richard Johnson
GAINESVILLE | University of Florida freshman quarterback Treon Harris has been charged with a second-degree misdemeanor for driving without a license after an incident in which police smelled marijuana in the car he was in.
On Dec. 13, Harris was driving a car belonging to fellow UF student E’mani Cain carrying freshman defensive backs J.C. Jackson and Jalen Tabor as passengers. The three players were traveling west on Stadium Road when the silver Infinity was pulled over for going 10 miles per hour over the campus speed limit of 20, according to an incident report obtained by the Times-Union.
Harris exited the car after pulling over into the Springs Residential Complex. An officer approached the car and Harris told him he didn’t have his driver’s license and has never had one, according to the report.
The report said the officer smelled marijuana and asked the other two players to exit the car. Harris consented to a search, and the officer found two different bags containing 3.2 total grams of marijuana in the car. The three players refused to say who the marijuana belonged to. No drug charges were filed.
“Because it was not their vehicle and we could not prove ownership or possession of the marijuana to any of the passengers at the time, and it was not in a position readily accessible to the driver, no charges were filed for the marijuana,’’ according to the report.
Harris was given a verbal warning for speeding as well as being issued the citation for driving without a valid license. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Jan. 15. Tabor — who has a valid driver’s license — drove the car back to Cain’s residence.
Harris’ lawyer, Huntley Johnson, told the Times-Union his client plans to plead not guilty to the charge. He added that Harris is in the process of obtaining his driver’s license.
The University Athletic Association released a statement Friday saying “we are aware of the incident and are dealing with it internally and their bowl status hasn’t changed.”
The Gators (6-5) play East Carolina in the Birmingham Bowl on Jan. 3.
Harris took over the starting quarterback job from redshirt junior Jeff Driskel the week of Florida’s victory over Georgia. He had previously entered games in relief of Driskel to lead the team to a comeback win at Tennessee and a homecoming loss to Missouri.
Tabor has played in 11 games this season with one interception. Jackson is sitting out the 2014 season after having shoulder surgery in September.
