Good Stuff. I enjoyed watching that ball team last year. Still not on board with the Baseball short (Tanner Allen). I did get to see Allen in Daytona one night (he plays for the Jupiter (Marlins affiliate). Im an LSU fan but have always followed State Baseball since the Will Clark days as I'm from & grew up in NOLA. Looking fwd to what this new Chapter of LSU Baseball looks like.

That was a fun ride. It seems Mississippi State was that program that was just right there for 40 years and never seemed to do it. Thunder and Lighting (Clark & Palmeiro) were just two of the several Major Leaguers on that 1985 team that brought so much attention to the program and even they didn't win it all. We just weren't deep enough to overcome injuries to our pitching. Ron Polk got into a battle with the NCAA over scholarships and it was like jousting the wind mill. We always seemed to be playing with one hand tied behind our backs when it came to recruiting. Other states had lottery monies slated for college tuitions and could use those monies. To make this latest run, State had several guys paying their own way either with $$$ or football scholarships. Going Forward these NIL deals have brought State a new life. Now, we have some guys that at one time had to pay to play, will now be able to get enough to pay for school and maybe even a little more. The NIL will make more of a difference for Mississippi State in baseball. Our fanbase cares more about baseball than most places, you can look at our attendance figures and know that. If you are interested and have not seen this, you might watch it sometime. It's less than an hour but very enlightening but as knowledgeable as you seeem to be on baseball, you probably already know. www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7cKh4fo6Bg

I recently read an interview with Jay Johnson (LSU Baseball Coach) about NIL.
He claims one of this stars, didn't mention his name but, Im assuming it's Dylan Crew (All American Outfielder) has made enough money through NIL that he gave his Scholarship back LSU and agreed to pay his own way. Now, this kid turned down first round money to come to LSU and will get his in 2023 when he's a Junior so money is not a concern...but still
Couple of things, this is unprecedented IMO with the young Prima Donnas these days who now focus mainly on $$$. (I know BBall players are of different make up from FBall players, but still). Moreso, this can turn into such an advantage when you consider the NCAA only allows 11.7 full scholarships total. Vandy always had an advantage in this regard, but MAYBE not so much going forward.

Mississippi and Alabama were the only two SEC states that don't allow for some sort of assistance. This is from lottery or otherwise. Vandy does have a needs based scholardhips going and on top of that they now can offer guys that don't qualify academically.
The NIL monies won't be all that everywhere like it will be at Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Arkansas and LSU. I figure even Southern Miss will get more NIL monies than some SEC schools. We love baseball in this state. The fan interest just isn't there at a lot of places.

I love college baseball. I was happy for Miss State for winning it all last year. As I stated in another post - I have a good friend who is a Miss St Dog. We made a lot of trips to Baton Rouge to watch football games between the Tigers and the Dogs and also made a trip for a baseball series between the two schools in old Alex Box Stadium. Standing room only in that series.
I think it was in the 80's that Miss State had LSU's number in football and I believe beat us 5 times in a row. But the Dogs always had a good baseball team. Miss Sta and LSU brought big time baseball to the SEC.
And as you state - NIL is going to change college baseball. Eleven scholarships for 40 players doesn't go very far. But NIL is going to change the face of college baseball.
College baseball is just around the corner - about three weeks or so.

This will open the door for a lot more players and IMO the baseball schools are going to get stronger. I see the NIL as a big plus for LSU. I am sure it will help other SEC schools as well.
