Pistons opt to Flip the page, move on without Saunders AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- Flip Saunders will not be back as coach next season, the Detroit Pistons announced Tuesday. "Decisions like this are difficult to make," team president Joe Dumars said. "However, at this time, I feel it is necessary to make a change." Detroit's season ended last Friday with a loss to Boston, the third consecutive season the Pistons exited with a Game 6 defeat in the Eastern Conference finals. cbs.sportsline.com/nba/story/10852280

Not a Pistons fan, but when you go to EIGHT Eastern Conference Finals under this guy and have ONE title to show for it... well...

Flip sucked. He was never gonna get them over the hump. He was a knee jerk hire based on the fact that Larry Brown is a Lindsey Lohan-type head case who had to be booted. I don't think he's the last person who cut checks with the Pistons to be shown the door here this offseason...

OSC he only took them to 3 and lost all of them. Larry Brown won the championship. I am glad he is gone, he is a horrible playoff coach, just cant make in-game adjustments and always seemed to get caught with his pants down...example getting blown out in game 3 at home.

The players didn't respect him. It's not all his fault. Those players needed to realize that being great means being able to win regardless of who's coaching. I remember the kind of "this one's on US" theme that went thru the roster after LB left...like they didn't need a great coach to win a title. That it was more them and less Brown. They helped HIM get his first title, not vice versa. And from that moment Saunders was hired he had no chance.

They wanted Flip out after year one. Can't believe he survived this long.
Smokin Joe will find them a coach. I used to watch Joe D play college ball as a kid.

I think NBA coaches are the most overated people in all of sports....... When almost every game is settled by under 10 points, it's simply a matter of execution by the PLAYERS.... who makes the shots, who makes the great steal, etc. The Pistons were winning by 10 damn points in the 4th quarter in game 6, and completely shut it down in route to the eventual loss. I'm not sure what Saunders could have done to prevent that.....

RR...
Dumars had no choice on Wallace. He wanted a giant paycheck and was willing to sacrifice loyalty for it. Reality was, entering his mid 30s, he was going to be borderline useless soon. A guy with NO offensive game who relied totally on athleticism and strength. And if you really look @ it...Wallace sucks now. Can't stay on the floor, worse offensively, has had little to no impact on either team since he left...Detroit wouldn't be any better and they'd have his massive contract to deal with. It was a lose-lose situation for Dumars and he probably chose the better direction.

No he was getting old, wanted too much money and has zero offensive skills. This team is old and will/should be dismantled. Stuckey, Maxiell, and Sheed(when he wants to play) should stay but Rip is not going to last at that level much longer and we should get something for him. Billups is under contract so I am not sure they can offload him. I am not sure McDyess is willing to stick it out much longer either. I dont see the next 2 years as good ones for the Pistons.

Shit, Hamilton's only 30 with no major injuries on his resume...that's OLD now?

Avery Johnson won't command respect. Hell, Mark Cuban brought RICK CARLISLE in to "speed up the offense" and "micromanage" less. That's like me bringing Courtney Love home and telling my mom "I've gotten tired of dating crack addict whores, so this little lady and I are going out now."
Sheed's contract is worth 14 mil. If they give him away...and there will be takers...they better get something long term/good for them. I'd just keep him and make a run @ a major FA next year. Isn't LeBreezy an FA? Yep, he'd look good in Detroit.

His numbers were down this year, I just see him wearing down and dont think he will be able to continue the same level and think now would be the best time to shop him around. Shit I dont know I just feel like we need something new in the mix. The next coach will inherit the same problems Flip did.

I think it all depends. Those players played with attitude around Brown. But so have ALL of Brown's teams other than the Knicks. They seem to think Stuckey is the next great NBA star, so I could see them moving Billups in a package deal with Sheed and say "if we're gonna give you 14 mil in cap space, you better take one of our contracts."
Rip is a relative bargain with 2 years left on his contract. It doesn't make financial sense to trade him when he's underpriced and still useful. I think Tayshaun may have run out of excuses. I could see Detroit pulling something off that nets Melo and Kenyon Martin.

Billups and Rip both made 10mil and Sheed 12.5, its time to splode this team up and see what falls out.

Sheed's deal is worth 13.7 mil the last year. Billups is under contract longer than Rip. If I'm Dumars, I'm getting on the phone with Dan Issel...or whatever sorry fuck runs the Nuggets and offering a package with Sheed and Billups as the primaries for a package with Melo and either Martin or Nene...both WAY overpaid and hampering the Nugs from signing Iverson and anyone else to help their team...and going from there.
Anthony needs a change of scenery and Dumars is the no nonsense type that commands respect from players acting like 15 year olds. Iverson wants one last shot...Billups (hometown boy) and Sheed are veterans he can take that plunge with. Plus in 5 years, Denver has continued to be unable to address outside shooting. Karl is an NC guy and Sheed seems to respect that basketball bloodline...(Larry Brown).

I need to be a GM. You give me ANY team in the league, I can have them revamped and in the playoffs w/in 2 years, a title contender w/in 3-4. I've sent too many letters to Larry Bird to justify another one. He clearly doesn't have me in his plans.
