He has to come to the plate too right? That is the problem with bean balls in the AL in my opinion...

Especially if you team was losing by 4+ runs. I would have thrown it right between the numbers, especially to a rival. The best revenge is to get them and beat them this time anyways, you probably did the right thing. The other kid should have had enough control to not hit three batters if they are playing legion ball...

We won 5-4 tonight. I went 1-3 with an RBI Double and made a scoop on the last play of the game. Sorry BTB, I kind of hijacked your thread

Have a couple more practices then tryouts over the weekend. We leave the beginning of next week and will be gone until the 23rd.
Hopefully we have a reason to stay that long against some good competition...

I am getting ready to go out of town, and with all the stuff to do before we go I won't be back on until we get back in a couple of weeks.
Have a good one and best of luck in your playoffs MIZ!

Well today was a long day. I had to get to the field at 10:00 for an 11:00 game. There was a half hour rain delay and then we were playing a team that had beat us 15-5 before. We ended up winning 8-6 and our reward was we had to play our rivals next. We played great and eventually won 9-6 but our catcher got into a fight so he will be suspended for our next game. After all that though we made it to the finals and I was at the ballpark for 7 and a half hours. I am tired

Thanks for the well wishes guys, we finished in 5th out of 18 teams. The other teams were all recruited from large areas (and picked up additional players for the tournament) and we all come from a small suburb of Columbus and didn't pick anyone up.
Through pool play (5 games) we gave up 15 runs. Great pitching, and defense. We faced a couple of really good teams in the tournament bracket play and gave up 21 runs in our last 2 games. Finished with a 5-3 record, not too bad.
Pretty proud of the kids. They had a hell of a lot of fun, and I drank a hell of a lot of beer...

Sounds like they acquitted themselves quite nicely!!

Thanks Toph, it was a really good time. A few teams from Illiniois, Indiana, Ohio all competed along with a team from Panama. One team recruited from the NW part of Indiana and the Chicago area to get their team (they were damn good, and the team that eliminated us, we beat them in pool play 10-2). Tough to compete at that level with those types of teams, but we did well. We were only able to get 8 guys time on the mound though...

Well we finished the season with a 40-13 record. I didn't think we were going to play that many games, but we went pretty far in our tournaments.
The team pitched 282 innings (all 12 players pitched). In those innings the team issued 99 walks, and struck out 242 batters. The team ERA ended up being 3.43 and the average percentage of strikes thrown for the team was 64%.
Pretty proud of them. Have tryouts today and tomorrow.
Guess after I had a little time to digest what they did (after a tough end of the season loss) makes me even more proud.

Wow haven't posted on this in a while (and for some reason felt like reading it a bit again).
This year the 11 year-old team finished 43-19 while playing in the toughest division in Central Ohio and several tournaments at the Elite level.
Final stats this year: 303 innings pitched (all 12 pitched), 1790 balls thrown, 2951 strikes thrown, 321 hits allowed, 135 BB's, 191 K's, 173 ER, 3.42 ERA, 62% strikes (the zone was much tighter this year than last), TEAM WHIP 1.5.
Not bad numbers.
The High School team I coach went 20-7 but didn't throw the ball as well as I would have liked. We won a lot of high scoring games and way too many walks IMO.

I think the most staggering stat is that you played over 60 games. I don't know that I played that many games in the 3 years combined that I played even if you include making a deep run in All Stars.

Yeah, when I was 11 my team went 49-11, we were real solid. I think that is a good amount of games because you don't schedule that many, but deep runs in tournaments get your extra games ( I think we scheduled about 45 games ). It was quite a few games, but we started in April (first game April 10th) and went until July (July 17th was our last game).

It's funny I was just at some graduation parties and filling out the graduation cards for these kids I coached all those years ago.
Two of the twelve are going on to play baseball at Purdue university which is awesome.
Another one of the kids quit playing baseball after he was 11 and he is now a tight end who is going to play for northwestern which is pretty cool.
They grow up fast man.

That's really cool, BTB. You should be very proud! Without a doubt. The other day the kids going to Purdue were on a local sports show because their story is cool (playing together since nine now going to college together at big ten school) and they wanted to know what the most impressive thing about them was. They meant on the field but I went off the board. One of their teammates when he was nine had a tumor on his hip and he couldn't play and they were there to support him. Then one kid was in and out of the hospital and he was the smallest kid in their grade and wasn't on the team but his brother was and they way they treated him and care for him set the tone that everyone else had no choice but to follow. Then I had a medical situation and they were nothing but supportive and helpful and then being great people makes me way prouder than the fact that they got both got scholarships to Purdue (but that is pretty cool also).

That's awesome.... I think I'd be a good coach for older players... I'd be good at fine-tuning their abilities... not patient enough to teach them the game I think... we'll see when I have kids (unless I have daughters).. then, mommy can take them to dance recitals and shit... TBH goose just wants to teach them how to pick up chicks.

I developed that patience I didn't think I had and it's been an awesome time. I haven't had one parent (YET) that's complained.
