John Calipari decided to leave. Sean Miller reportedly decided to stay. Then he reportedly did an about-face and took the Arizona job on Monday. Multiple media outlets are reporting that Miller is leaving Xavier to coach the Wildcats, one day after meeting with Arizona athletic director Jim Livengood and rejecting the school's offer late Sunday night. Xavier AD Mike Bobinski wrote ESPN.com's Andy Katz in a text message on Sunday: "Nothing firm at this moment, but I remain very optimistic that Sean Miller will continue as our head basketball coach at Xavier." A statement from the school could come on Monday. Calipari, a good friend of Miller's, told ESPN.com that Miller was struggling with the same decision he had just battled before leaving Memphis for Kentucky. Miller "has a potential Final Four team coming back next season, loves where he lives, has security and is paid well and has the best job in his league, yet has to decide whether or not this is the right job for him to explore," Calipari said earlier Sunday. While Calipari accepted the challenge of a big-name program, Miller reportedly opted to remain with a program that he has taken to four NCAA tournaments in his five years. sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=4045199

I wish there wasn't such a rush to be the first to report something. Let something actually happen before you report it (Not you RR).

If Miller ends up taking the job, I think that's a really good hire for UA. Xavier's been really good the last few years. The Pac 10's assembling an excellent coaching fraternity.

I'm not shocked, but I am a little surprised at this. Last week I was talking to Sean's father and John said Sean and Amy were very happy at Xavier. Money and a chance to coach an elite program in an elite conference are hard to turn down. I know John was hoping Sean would stay in Ohio, with Archie being an assisstant at OSU, he and his wife Barbara were able to see the boys and their families every week. That will be harder now.

This is a strange move in my opinon. He is leaving a really talented Xavier team for a lackluster Arizona team (the big 3 they have will most likely all be gone).
Xavier is a good mid-major program.
The difference is the money, (800,000 vs. 2.2 or so million).
Xavier has had a lot of good coaches lately, and I don't doubt that they will find another young coach that will succeed there.

BTB, I have to disagree. Xavier is clearly a well run program by the adminstration. The program is bigger than their coach, thus they will find another bright young basketball mind that will inherit a really solid team for next year and that will continue the recruiting on down the road. Xavier will be just fine. They don't need to overpay. They need to stay the course and realize that they are a good mid major program that will alwasy be a stepping stone job. They just need to do a good job at identifying coaching talent when the time is necessary and I have no reason to believe that they won't do it again this time. Look at the string of coaches that they have had. Pete Gillen, Skip Prosser, Thad Motta, Sean Miller. Maybe they get Brad Stevens from Butler or they promote a top assistant coach. IMO they will be fine.

Did I type it wrong? I meant to say I think they will find the next good young coach (maybe I mistyped it in my previous post, my bad).
Xavier will be fine, but you are right they cannot afford the same amount of contracts as Arizona or other larger programs.
