Rumor: Bulls are open to acquiring Tracy McGrady
By J.E. Skeets
We went a little wild with the Tracy McGrady trade rumors in this morning's SL post, but hey, what's one more? Or two? Or three? No, just one.
To remix a previous McGrady rumor, the Rockets are looking to unload the disgruntled ex-star and his $23.2 million expiring contract right now and the Chicago Bulls might be the team to do it for them, according to The Daily Herald.
One of the regrettable chapters in recent Bulls history was the failed free-agent pursuit of 2000.
It was all for naught as McGrady chose Orlando. Nearly 10 years later, the Bulls may get another chance.
McGrady recently left the Houston Rockets and both sides reportedly will seek a trade. Sources suggested the Bulls are open to acquiring McGrady, who is just 30 years old.
A trade with the Bulls would almost have to include the expiring contracts of Brad Miller(notes) and Jerome James(notes), because, as Howard Beck of the New York Times pointed out, the Rockets are likely reluctant to acquire any long-term contracts unless they view the players as building blocks for the future.
But Mike McGraw adds another wrinkle: Chicago might be interested in moving John Salmons(notes) to guarantee a larger amount of cap space next summer. (I love the "might." It's John Salmons for crying out loud.) He's owed $6.5 million next season but has an option to terminate the deal and become a free agent.
Of course, the odds of this happening are minuscule. Unless Isiah Thomas lands another GM job, no one in their right mind is going to give Salmons more than $6.5 million to play basketball next season.
Oh, trade rumors. Fun fun.

I think this would be a nice move for both teams. I think Tracy still has game, and for some reason I think he would be a nice aquirment by the Bulls. Lets remember this is just a rumor though.

Not a McGRady fan myself. Diminishing skills, a total "me" guy. Not a good combo for a young Bulls team. I guess, one season wouldn't totally kill the chemistry, but I don't see there being enough shots for Rose, Deng, and McGrady. JMO.

I think there would be enough shots for Rose, Deng and Tmac but I do agree with you about Tmacs skills diminishing Toph. He just isn't the same player he used to be. Tmac certainly doesn't suck but he just isn't the same player he used to be. I am sure all of the the injuries he has experienced throughout his career (mostly with the Rockets) are what is diminishing his skills on the court. Age is also catching up to him as well. I have to be honest though, I really don't want him with the Bulls. He will probably end up getting hurt and being gone for the remainder of the season. I don't mean to be negative but it always seems like when Tmac comes back from a injury he just gets injured again.
