What kind of team will the Gators have this year. They had some power houses a few years ago?
LSU will need to find some pitchers after Aaron Nola, but he is a good place to start.

Odd ranking for USC. We return 7 position players and 9 pitchers from last year. We also had the number 3 recruiting class. Oh well. Preseason polls mean jack shit.

College baseball rankings are all over the place. Even as the season progresses - the different polls have the teams all over the place. But college baseball has the playoffs and the college world series to determine the best team. LSU has open practices for the public this weekend - but some of them might be cancelled - it is getting cold in the south the next few days. Houston has the prediction of icy rain and sheet and frozen bridges. We are not equipped to handle that kind of weather.

But college baseball has the playoffs and the college world series to determine the best team. Exactly. Here is Baseball America's poll. Their #1 couldn't even crack the Top 10 of the poll that Tony posted: virginia 1. Virginia 50-12 11 oregonstate2. Oregon State 52-13 4 Indiana3. Indiana 49-16 7 calstatefullerton4. The defending National Champs, btw, didn't crack the Top 10 in either poll.

That looks much more realistic for what USC should be. Again doesn't make any difference.

In four pre-season college baseball polls, LSU is ranked #2, #3, #8, #12. This is an example of college baseball polls. Teams are ranked all over the place.
But as I mentioned in an earlier post, teams get to play themselves to Omaha and a chance to win it all - they win it on the field and not by human or computer polls.
The secret is to be ranked in the top eight teams or seeded teams. Those teams get to play the regional and super regional at home and that is a big advantage, IMO.

It can be especially since the regional pairing is regionally done and not by ranking.

It can be especially since the regional pairing is regionally done and not by ranking. It means the first game is almost a gift to the seeded team in a regional. Seeded teams usually start 2nd or 3rd weekend starter in first game - saving the best pitcher for the second game. Big foot up for a seeded team.

Tennessee will get into this poll this year, improved pitching. Solid Hitting with Simcox, Stewart, and Price. Got our power with Jackson. We all know we got a coach who knows what he's doing. I'll be there when we open things up with Purdue in a couple of weeks. I have no doubt at the very least we're Hoover bound this season.

Have I mentioned that the defending National Champs can't crack the Top 10? It doesn't matter in college baseball. They have playoffs to prove there champion.

Bruins open up with Portland. How much of their pitching staff returned? UCLA usually has pretty outstanding pitchers. Plutko and Vander Tuig are gone (Indians and Giants), but the third starter, Grant Watson, returns as does the AA closer David Berg. They lose one of the two set up men (Weiss) but the other (Kapriellian) returns. Cody Peteet will apparently be the second starter (4-6, 4.84 ERA, 29 games, 11 starts last year). The 3rd starter will be someone with very limited experience.

Lost their 2nd and 3rd starters and their closer. But heck, in college the good freshmen pitchers can be huge by about mid year.

Bruins just lost the heart of their order. The big blow is Eric Filia, out for the season with a torn labrum.

Coaches pick USC to win the SEC but pretty close vote. USC gets 5, LSU gets 4, Miss State 4 and Vandy 1.

LSU and South Carolina do not play this year either. LSU plays Vandy, Tenn, Florida and Georgia from the east.
The Friday night game could be chilly in Baton Rouge, but the Saturday game is in New Orleans at 2:00 (home and away with New Orleans) and the Sunday game is with Grambling at 4:00.
At least it is warming up somewhat. Probably be some cold games in other places.

38. I think the main concern is clearing the stadium of the ice that dropped yesterday.

38. I think the main concern is clearing the stadium of the ice that dropped yesterday. Thirty 8 is pretty cold for baseball, but the college game has to start this early to get the number of games in that they do.
