Russia 4 Liechtenstein 0 Austria 1 Sweden 1 Montenegro 2 Moldova 0 Luxembourg 1 Belarus 1 Spain 5 FYROM 1 Ukraine 0 Slovakia 1 Estonia 1 Slovenia 0 San Marino 0 Lithuania 2 Switzerland 0 England 2
The Brits may be showing signs of life.
Meanwhile tonight Group B will get started, without the Israel-Belgium game. Awesome. At least they didn't make them move their home games to another country like they usually do.

The Czech Republic-Netherlands match was in Prague, so it's not that shocking that the Czech's were able to pull off the upset. The other two results are very surprising though.

I saw that, in that sense you were right that it was kinda lucky, but still I don't think anybody would've been super surprised beforehand if the Czech's beat the Dutch at home.

Didn't see the game but I wonder if the Dutch might be quarreling again. It is a tradition with them. To say that Robben is moody is to say that the sun is warm.

Germany smashed by Poland 2-0 in Poland. Lots of German starters out and they will have a tough time advancing if they are not careful.

Don't see it, Germany would be hard pressed not finish in the top 2 even with their stars out.

Yeah, it is way early, but some weird things going on. The Poland-Germany result, Iceland tied for 1st in their group, Wales leading Group B (partially because they have played 2 games to Belgium's 1). Poland and Ireland ahead of Germany, and the Swiss and Portugal both sitting in last place.
Of course, we're only 2 (and in some cases 1) games in.

Iceland leads the Dutch 2-0 at the half, speaking of teams who need to pull their heads from their butts.

Yeah unlike the Germans the Dutch have dug themselves into a hole that very possible that they won't be able to get out of.

It seems like there have been a lot of upsets lately, but I'm not sure it will matter for the top teams with the expanded field this time.

Matchday 5 opened last night with groups C, E and G in action:
Group C: Macedonia 1-2 Belarus Slovakia 3-0 Luxembourg Spain 1-0 Ukraine
Slovakia is still perfect halfway through (15 points), with Spain 3 points behind and Ukraine 6 back.
Group E: England 4-0 Lithuania Slovenia 6-0 San Marino Switzerland 3-0 Estonia
England is also perfect, with Slovenia and Switzerland tied 6 points back
Group G: Liechtenstein 0-5 Austria Moldova 0-2 Sweden Montenegro 0-0 Russia (match abandoned)
Austria is out in front with 13 points, with Sweden in 2nd with 9 and Russia and Montenegro are tied at 5, pending any action taken by UEFA for:
The UEFA EURO 2016 qualifying match between Montenegro and Russia was abandoned in the 67th minute following crowd disturbances at the Gradski Stadion in Podgorica.
In the first minute of the Group G fixture, Russia goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev appeared to be struck by an object thrown from the crowd. He was subsequently carried off the field on a stretcher and the referee took the players off for a first time.
Play resumed after a 33-minute delay and there was no score at half-time. The start of the second half was delayed by 18 minutes due to further disturbances and the match was abandoned in the 67th minute, shortly after Russia's Roman Shirokov had a penalty saved by Vukašin Poleksić.
UEFA will wait to receive reports from the delegate and referee to open disciplinary proceedings.
Groups A, B and H go at it tonight. Amongst the story lines:
The Turks need a win tonight in Amsterdam if they want to have any hope at all. Can Israel stay perfect? Can Belgium get back on track and pull into second (Currently in 4th)? Who will pull ahead in the Croatia (10 points), Italy (10) and Norway (9) mess atop group H?

Dutch lose AGAIN to Iceland. Iceland running away with the group which is more than shocking. And the Dutch are now third in the group well behind the Czechs and barely ahead of Turkey. Trouble for the Orange. Robben named captain and immediately gets injured.
In Group B, Wales, Belgium and Israel all win and keep pace. Wales leads the Belgians by 3 points and Israel by 5
In Group H, Italy and Norway won and Croatia tied. Italy leads Croatia by 1 point and Norway by 2
All other groups play this weekend.

The start of the qualifying is over with 20 teams having their spots clinched, and 8 teams competing for the final spot.
Group A: Czech Republic, Iceland, Turkey Group B: Belgium, Wales Group C: Spain, Slovakia Group D: Germany, Poland Group E: England, Switzerland Group F: Northern Ireland, Romania Group G: Austria, Russia Group H: Italy, Croatia Group I: Portugal, Albania
Competing for Final Bids: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ukraine, Republic of Ireland, Slovenia, Hungary, Sweden, Norway and Denmark.
I know a lot of people didn't like the Euro Tournament expanding, but I like it giving some of these smaller countries a shot on a big stage.

I would have expected the Vatican to advance before Iceland. That one blew my mind. And the Kingdom of the Netherlands pulled their all too frequent choke job. They are the Georgia of world Football.

Might as well post the groups since they've been announced:
Group A: France Romania Switzerland Albania
Group B: England Russia Wales Slovakia
Group C: Germany Ukraine Poland Northern Ireland
Group D: Spain Czech Republic Turkey Croatia
Group E: Belgium Italy Republic of Ireland Sweden
Group F: Portugal Iceland Austria Hungary
Gotta say that France, and Germany are definitely the favorite, but Belgium, Italy, and Spain wouldn't be all that surprising as winners either. Group E is by far the hardest group.

Belgium is very good. Must make them feel great to be in it while their neighbors to the north choked again.
