LSU gets an 8 to 2 win over Southern. Pitching continues to look good with Cam Sanders getting the win. He pitched 5.1 innings, allowing just 2 hits and striking out 8. Todd Peterson relieved pitching 3.2 innings allowing 3 hits and striking out 6.
Zack Watson returned to the lineup tonight and had 3 hits and 3 stolen bases. Welcome back Zack.
Tigers looking better than they did early on.

Just been busy, but the Gators' #1 ranking will probably end Monday after losing 2 straight to UCF. Would you like to make an av bet on the series we play against each other next weekend?

LSU loses to Hawaii 4 to 2 last night. The Tigers could not come up with timely hits. Left a lot of runners in scoring position.
Hess pitched pretty good but gave up three gopher balls.
Tigers have a ways to go to be good enough to make a run in the SEC. But usually they come together when SEC play begins - we shall see this year.

LSU defeats the Missouri Tigers tonight 4 to 2 to win their SEC opener. Not much hitting -walks provided most of the runs. LSU picked up 2 runs in the first on 5 walks and no hits. Missouri picked up their 2 runs in the top of the seventh on 4 walks and no hits.
LSU scored on a solo homer and a RBI single. Not many hits in the game as LSU picked up 5 and Missouri 4.

LSU wins the series with Missouri winning today 7 to 5. Mizzou won the Saturday night game 12 to 6.
LSU is now 14-7 for the season and 2-1 in SEC play. LSU is going to have to get better pitching to make a run for the SEC title this year. But they started slow last year and about a third of the way into SEC play - they won about 17 straight to carry them all the way to Omaha. They need some of that magic this year.

Well, I never heard back from the Cock lover about an av bet, but he would have lost. That being said, the Gators have been impressive since losing those 2 games to UCF, and have regained the top spot in the rankings.

LSU starting pitching is looking a lot better than early in the season. Zack Hess threw a 5 hit shutout for 8 innings against A&M last night as they won 4 to 1. The relief staff had pitched 29 scoreless innings before allowing a solo HR in the ninth inning.
LSU has an almost identical record as last year before starting their hot streak. Two starters are still out of the lineup and hopefully they get back into the lineup soon.
SEC record is 6-4 right now and a game behind Ole Miss in the west. LSU was picked to finish near the bottom as they lost their weekend starting rotation from last year.

UCLA somewhat quietly is having themselves a pretty decent year. After whooping up on USC the last 2 nights (combined score 35-3) they are 24-10 and 13-4 IC.

It is looking like no invite for the Tigers this year into the NCAA tournament. They lose another heartbreaker last night to the Razorbacks 5 to 4. They have been blown out in games this year and they lose heartbreakers.
Too many players lost from last year and injuries have the Tigers on the doorsteps of not being invited into this year's NCAA tourney. And this after being a top 8 seed for the last seven years.

There is still a sliver of hope as LSU beats Arkansas tonight 6 to 4. But they need to take the series from Arkansas tomorrow and win the two remaining SEC series against Bama and Auburn.

Generally 15-15 in the sec will get you in. That has been the bar in the past. But LSU has lost more midweek games than normal. But the 15-15 SEC record should get them in. That mean splitting the next six SEC games with Alabama and Auburn. Bama at home and Auburn on the road. This is about where LSU was last year and they swept the last two SEC series and won not only the west but tied the Gators for the overall championship. And if they sweep these last two series, they could win the SEC west. Strange as it seems. Geaux Tigers.

It looked like the Tigers season might be over, but they score six runs in the bottom of the eighth to get a win 7 to 5 on a grand slammer by Beau Jordan.
They were trailing 5 to 1 in the bottom of the 8th when they stuck for six runs. WOW.
They now stand 13-12 in the SEC.
Way to geaux Tigers.

LSU still has a breath of life concerning the postseason. They travel to Auburn for the last SEC series. If they take two of three from Auburn - LSU would have 16 conference wins. Sixteen wins have gotten all previous SEC teams with 16 SEC wins into the NCAA tourney and 15 wins might get them end. But 15 wins and one SEC tourney victory would probably do it.
It been a trying season for the LSU Tigers. They lost the three weekend starters from last year's team. Plus they have had a rash of injuries this year. Both to the pitching staff and full time players.
Their current record is 14-13 in the SEC and 31-21 in regular season.

After losing to Auburn in the first game of the series 11 to 4, I as many LSU fans thought that any postseason hopes were gone. LSU was facing Auburn again with Casey Mize on the mound. Probably the best college pitcher in America and could be the first draft choice in the MLB draft.
Ma’Khail Hilliard matched Mize for four innings. In the fifth Auburn struck for two runs off Hillard. But in the sixth LSU scored four runs on five straight hits off Mize and chased him from the game.
Hilliard pitched into the 8th inning when he walked two and ran the count to 2-0 before he was pulled. It had started raining in this inning. But Todd Peterson came into the game and got two outs to get out of the inning without any runs. The game was delayed for over an hour - lighting.
When the game resumed - LSU added two more runs and then retired Auburn 1-2-3 and won the game 6 to 2 and kept the postseason hopes alive.

LSU's postseason might depend upon a victory over Miss State in the opening round of the SEC tournament. A win should cement their entry into the NCAA tourney and a loss could be a nail biting experience.

After losing to the Gators yesterday, the Tigers beat South Carolina 6 to 4 in 12 innings. Todd Petersen - LSU's closer pitched the last five innings. Due to a substitution to the PN hitter Bain - who also pitched an inning, Petersen had to bat for in the top of the 12th inning. He has not batted in a game since high school. He hits a double to the base of the left field fence to drive in two runs. He then closed out the Gamecocks in the bottom of the 12th to give LSU two wins in the SEC tourney and punched their ticket to the NCAA tourney.

LSU came into the SEC tourney needing a win to close out an invite to the NCAA tourney. Now the Tigers have 4 wins under their belt and are in the SEC championship game tomorrow against Ole Miss. The Tigers closed out the game postponed by fog last night with Florida with the Tigers leading 10 to 0 in the sixth inning. They came back today to score another run and then shut down Florida in the 7th to get the run rule against the Gators 11 to 0.
Then this afternoon they beat Arkansas 2 to 1 to get to the SEC finals.
Way to geaux Tigers.

Tigers have to travel to Corvallis to play in regional hosted by Oregon State. Could be a great rematch between the Tigers and Beavers.
I was thinking about flying up to Portland and going to the regional. About an hour after where the teams were going, SW Airlines from Houston to Portland was almost sold out. There is going to be a lot of Tiger fans in that neck of the woods.

From Dandy Don's website:
The USA Baseball Collegiate National Team, coached by Paul Mainieri, clinched its fourth consecutive series victory over Cuba with a 2-0 win yesterday. Team USA’s two runs came on back to back home runs by LSU’s Daniel Cabrera and California’s Andrew Vaughn. Cabrera is now hitting at a team-leading .545 clip with six hits and two runs scored. The win completes Team USA's sweep of its three series this summer after previously winning all five games against Chinese Taipei and taking three of five from Japan. It has now won its last seven series, dating back to the 2016 campaign.
