LSU has to rebuild the starting lineup as they lost the heart of the team. But the Tigers have a ton of pitchers - a couple of good ones. And a couple of left-handers. The Tigers had a lot of sore arms last year.
From lsusports.net:
"Two injury-plagued campaigns to LSU's arsenal of arms have taken a toll, but they've also taught lessons. Now armed with improved technology, increased numbers, and, yes, a couple of lefties, this year's Tiger rotation could be among the best in Dunn's tenure, and it could be enough to carry LSU back to Omaha, despite heavy turnover in the everyday lineup.
"While we're trying to figure out the right combination and putting the pieces of the puzzle together in the lineup, I do think that our pitching staff is going to be at the level that it's going to allow us to win games, even while we're learning about our team, because of the quality of the pitchers themselves," Mainieri said Friday. "I think we're ready to get back to that position where we have an outstanding pitching staff like we did in Alan's first six years here that think these last two years have been a little bit of an aberration."
That aberration – 11th in the SEC in ERA in 2019 and 13th in 2018 – has been as much a result of bad luck and poor arm health as anything. Last season, Mainieri pointed out, LSU had its top three starters available to start in the same weekend just once. After Alex Lange and Jared Poche each exceeded 100 innings pitched in 2016 and 2017, only one Tiger pitcher – Zack Hess in 2018 – has even exceeded 90 innings, and none others have even reached 80.
To cure his team's brachial ails, Mainieri has fitted his team with Motus Sleeves that track pitchers' work load, arm stress, and a variety of related biomechanical data. Every morning, trainer Corey Couture sends a computer printout of the previous day's readings, and from there each pitcher will have his throwing routine adjusting accordingly.
"We're learning more and more about the importance of recovery for kids – just pure rest," Mainieri said. "We're giving them more days off of throwing than we ever have before. And I think that's been a positive thing. All I can tell you is this fall, the velocities were up, there were no injuries, and the guys still pitched well. So I think we're onto something, and we'll see if it works in the spring."

LSU opens the season this Friday against Indiana. The regular lineup will be made up of mostly newcomers. Pitching staff should be loaded and it will be interesting to see how it works out. A lot of the pitching staff last year had to work through sore arms and injuries.
But as springtime looms ahead of us - college baseball kicks off this weekend.
Niagara travels to Tallahassee to play Florida State - who has a new head coach this year after Coach Martin had been at FSU for almost a million years.
Louisville at Ole Miss should be one of the better matchups this week.
Vandy travels to Michigan in a rematch of the CWS finals. Best matchup of the week as Vandy #1 plays #11 Michigan.

LSU hosts Indiana tonight in the kickoff of the 2020 season. Because of forecast rain on Sunday - teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday.
LSU leads the all-time series with Indiana, 3-1-1, and this marks the Hoosiers' first appearance in Baton Rouge since the 2008 season-opening weekend, when the Tigers won two of three games over IU in the original Alex Box Stadium. The teams also played twice in Baton Rouge in 1926, with LSU winning the first game and the second game ending in a tie.
PITCHING MATCHUPS
Game 1 LSU – So. RH Cole Henry (4-2, 3.39 ERA, 58.1 IP, 18 BB, 72 SO in 2019) IU – Jr. LH Tommy Sommer (4-3, 3.40 ERA, 45.0 IP, 14 BB, 47 SO in 2019)
Game 2 LSU – So. RH Landon Marceaux (5-2, 4.66 ERA, 58.0 IP, 20 BB, 43 SO in 2019) IU – So. RH Gabe Bierman (4-0, 3.56 ERA, 48.0 IP, 18 BB, 46 SO in 2019)
Game 3 LSU – So. RH AJ Labas (redshirted in 2019; 6-2, 3.48 ERA, 54.1 IP, 7 BB, 32 SO in 2018) IU – So. RH Braydon Tucker (0-0, 2.70 ERA, 6.2 IP, 5 BB, 2 SO in 2019)
So we get to see the young guns of LSU - pitching is suppose to be the strong point for LSU this year. We shall see.

FSU and their new nepotistic coach off to an absolutely embarrassing start. They are going to miss Coach Martin for sure. He was FSU baseball.

Indiana defeated LSU in the nightcap of the doubleheader 7 to 2. LSU won the first two games of the weekend series to take the series. Overall LSU will have to improve their hitting - but the pitching was solid and some flashes of great things to come from a couple of pitchers that had sore arms last year and missed most of the season.

LSU lost to Nichols State 3 to 2 a couple of nights ago. Bad lost. Pitching staff walked a lot of batters. Shades of last year. And pitching staff had looked good in the first four games.

LSU has a nice tradition at their baseball games. Between innings they introduce an old military veteran and the LSU baseball teams comes out and shakes his hand.

LSU wins today 10 to 2. Starting pitcher A.J. Labas threw a 4 hitter for seven innings with one walk. If LSU hopes for a good season, it will be because of the pitching. So far this year - pitching is miles ahead of last year. And there is a lot of depth in the pitching staff.
If the hitting develops - LSU could have a good SEC season. Still very early.

LSU gets win over Texas tonight handing the Horns their first loss of the year 4 to 3. Outstanding pitching for both teams tonight. Elder for Texas and Cole Henry for the Tigers.
Jaden Hill pitched three innings of no hit for LSU. Looks like Hill is over his arm injury from last year. He hits 98 with his fast ball and has a mean slider.
They played in Minute Maid Park in the annual Houston Shriner's Tourney. Good game.
Geaux Tigers.
