LESS THAN FULL HOUSE A 12:30 p.m. late August kickoff and students not reporting to UCLA's campus until later next month didn't translate to a huge crowd. The game had an announced attendance of 32,982, which is the second-lowest for a UCLA game since the Bruins moved to the Rose Bowl in 1982. The record low remains 32,513 against Oregon State in 1992. a 1-9 Beaver squad that year... I don't know how many Tiger fans will be at the game. I would expect a pretty good presence though.

And there are a few California Tigers. One of the largest crawfish boils outside of Louisiana has been in San Diego. So I would expect the Cal Tigers to show up. Tigers will invade Los Angeles.

From Dandy Don's website:
LSU practiced in Houston yesterday - Report that LSU freshman running back Armoni Goodwin has suffered a minor injury. He has been showing a lot of promise and LSU’s two veteran running backs, John Emery and Tyrion Davis-Price, have dealt with minor injuries recently. However, the latest report expected Emery and Davis-Price to both be good to go this Saturday.

I will be in San Diego this time on Thursday - being picked up at the airport by my oldest son and then out to eat. And probably some type of brew. I can still have a couple of them. But not like the old days.

Thanks Tim, I am leaving for the airport in about a hour. My oldest son is picking me up at the San Diego Airport and we are going to grab some food and maybe a couple of margaritas. I am crashing at his place tonight and my middle son and wife and two grandsons will be arriving tomorrow. They will pick us up tomorrow and we will be heading for Los Angeles. We are making a stop in La Jolla for a light meal. Then we will finish the trip to LA. Tomorrow night we are eating at Bourbon's Steakhouse. Probably will blow a few dollars there.
And then Saturday on to the game. Looking at the map - there doesn't seem to be an easy way to the Rose Bowl. But I don't expect a huge crowd so that should help. But there should be plenty of Tigers.
Have a great weekend. Geaux Dawgs.

Stadium is down in a bowl. Not a lot around there immediately to eat. Pasadena and the parade route is up the hill and a bit of a walk. Nice setting, but traffic is interesting. Spectacular setting for sure. What you think, 80-20 LSU fans or closer?

I am in a weather delay at airport in Houston. One thunderstorm and it is over the airport.
Crowd - there are a few LSU fans on this flight. But I hear no flights out of NO.
I think there will be a lot of Tiger fans. I hope it is 80-20.
Anyway have a great weekend and enjoy the Clemson- Dawg game. Geaux Dawgs.

Well finally arrived in LA and checked in to the motel we are staying.
What a drive up from San Diego. Was late in getting started today due to my middle son and family - plane problems and they had to spend the night in Austin and their flight today arrived about 1:30. Drive time was much longer than expected - tons of traffic. But we are here.
Had a good time with my oldest son last night. I had more to drink than I have had in a long time.
Everyone have a great Labor day weekend.
Geaux Tigers.

Had a tremendous meal at the Bourbon Steakhouse in Glendale last night. The steaks were good and the service outstanding.
But this is a bucket event for me and I am enjoying it - again though the game is the event. About 7 more hours.
Everyone enjoy the long weekend.

I have had a great time on this trip, but UCLA handed us our butt. They basically controlled both side of the line tonight.
The Rose Bowl was quite an experience.
Had to walk a ways from where we parked - I am hitting the sack.

I mostly watched UGA, but what I did see of this game was UCLA running all over LSU. I wasn't expecting that.
Going forward it'll be interesting to see what both of these teams do. LSU has talent and can learn from the game, but they could also go off the rails and Ogeron gets fired. UCLA looks to be a solid contender for the PAC title. I was watching with CU Buffs fans and they definitely took notice.

By the way, has anyone heard if Orgeron had anything to say about sissy blue shirts after the game?

Geaux, I was thinking about you and your trip and was pulling for the Tigers, if only for you all to enjoy such a day, such victory, but was not to be. Here is to safe travels back and hope the adventure with family was still memorable. May you all get to do it one more time in Baton Rouge! Cheers!

OK some details of the Rose Bowl experience. Beautiful old stadium set in the valley with mountains as a backdrop. Stadium is in an area with neighborhood surrounding it. Or at least the way we came into the stadium. Probably the north side of the stadium.
Parking on this side of he stadium was on a golf course. We were probably parked a mile from the stadium. Sand traps and greens all the way. Plenty of tailgating. Both Tigers and Bruins and lot of pre game chatter. There was even an area that was fenced off and looked like an LSU alumni function. Los Angeles probably has a pretty good sized Tiger alumni group. I don't know if it was open to all Tigers as we just walked past it.
But as we approached the stadium - majestic old football stadium. We had our masks on as we entered gate to the entry to the stadium. The concourse was outside the entry into the and there were concession stands and restrooms all around us. We walked to our right and my sons brought some beer from one of the concession stands - I brought a bottle of water.
We walked on and came to entry 17 that was a tunnel into the stadium. Stadium is partially sunken as we came out on section 17 about 30 rows up. We were seated on row 45. We walked up the stairs to row 45 - our seats were about 111 to 116. About the 25 yard line. Great location. Seats had backs - but were pretty small and not much room between the rows. I'm 6'1" and my knees were touching the seats in front of me. Tight quarters. And we were in the shade. Other side of the field was in the sun - at least 15 degrees warmer.
Then the game - that was the downside of the trip. Defense had its moments, but the LB play was the worst part of the defense. Couldn't stop the run and add poor tackling. Either the Tiger defense is bad or UCLA could be better than there preseason ranking. We shall see how that plays out.
Then the offensive line stunk the Rose Bowl up. Tigers couldn't run the ball at all and Max Johnson didn't have much time to pass. I don't think I saw a pass thrown to a back circling out of the backfield all night.
I am going to watch the replay and see if reveals anything different from my game experience.
But it is one less item on the bucket list.
Everyone have a great week.
Geaux Tigers.
