LSU and Tennessee played a good one tonight. The Tigers win 5 to 2 scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the 8th on a 2 out double by Jordan Thompson. Great pitching dual for 7 innings between Vols Chase Dollander and Tigers Paul Skenes - two of the best pitchers in the country.

LSU defeats Tennessee tonight 5 to 2. Crowd tonight was 12,500 plus and last night was over 13,000, the largest crowd in LSU history at the old Alex Box and the new Alex Box Stadiums. Great baseball.
Make that a 6 to 4 win. The 5 to 2 score was the Thursday night game. Must have been asleep.

Vols avoid the sweep by bombing the Tigers 14 to 7. It started out bad for the Tigers when Thatcher Hurd couldn't get an out in the first inning and jumped on LSU for six runs and then added 4 more in the second for a 10 to 0 lead.

LSU gets the midweek win over Nicholls 12 to 2. It was their 9th 10 run rule game.
Huge weekend series starting Thursday night as the Tigers travel to South Carolina to play the Gamecocks in a huge SEC series. LSU is #1 and South Carolina is #6.

South Carolina wins the first game of the series last night 13 to 5. LSU bullpen allowed 12 runners via walks or hit batsman.
LSU down 7 to 3 heading into the 8th inning score 4 to tie the game at 7 and get the winning run in the 9th to win 8 to 7.
If weather holds the third game of the series will be played later today.

No third game in Columbia today - rain again. LSU and South Carolina both have very good teams. If the pitching for these teams hold up - they both could be in Omaha at the end of the year.
LSU is coming up with sore arms. Garret Edwards left yesterday's game with a sore elbow. He has been the most reliable early reliever who could come in and pitch two or three innings. Hope it is not serious.
But both teams have tremendous hitting ability's. The Gamecocks lead the nation in home runs. Tigers also have some pop in their bats.

LSU took care of business last night as they defeated Tulane 11 to 5. Pitching had it's ups and downs. Christian Little struggled in the start but Thatcher Hurd looked better than he has in his last two appearances. Nineteen hits as the hot offense continued.
Kentucky comes into Alex Box Stadium Thursday night for a big SEC series. After this series - the Tigers will have faced the hardest part of their schedule in the SEC and they they don't play Florida and Vandy. They have faced Arkansas, South Carolina, Tennessee and this week Kentucky.
Schedule should be easier for the second half of the season. But it doesn't always work out that way. Still have to play a game at a time.

Midway point in SEC conference play. It is the fifth weekend series and five remain.
There are three matchups this weekend that include five of the six top teams in the SEC.
Kentucky at LSU Tennessee at Arkansas South Carolina at Vandy
Florida is the other top team and they are playing Georgia - in last place in the east.
Should be some good games in the SEC this weekend.

LSU wins the first game of the series against Kentucky 16 to 6 with two grand slams, but Kentucky gets the second game 13 to 10. So they both go for the series win today, weather permitting.

Wow what a game at Alex Box today.
LSU opens the scoring with a run in both the second and third inning for a 2 to 0 lead. Kentucky scores a run in the 4th and 5th to tie it 2 to 2. LSU scores one in the bottom of the 5th for a 3 to 2 lead.
Kentucky comes back and scores again for a 3 to 3 tie in the 6th. LSU gets one in the bottom of the 6th to go ahead again 4 to 3.
The Wildcats break the game open with three runs in the top of the 7th for a 6 to 4 lead. But the Tigers bounce back in the bottom of the 7th to tie it at 6 apiece.
The Wildcats fail to score in the 8th, but the Tigers score one to take a 7 to 6 lead.
The Tigers hold the lead in the 9th to take a hard fought victory.
The two teams offense is exactly the opposite. Kentucky plays small ball and the Tigers bang away.
Kentucky scored 11 times when they got the lead runner on. In a matter of fact - they were 11 for 11.
A very exciting game. Tigers take the series. Kentucky is for real - they have an outstanding team.

Kentucky with its small ball play are exciting to watch. Every player in their lineup can bunt. A lost art, but they do it perfectly. Their first hit today was a bunt laid down and the runner beat it out.
Again a great weekend series.

Good news for the Tigers - Ty Floyd had his best game of the year going 8.1 innings for the win. Walks had been his problem, but yesterday he walked only one batter. LSU won 8 to 4 over the Ole Miss Rebels.
Tigers can sweep Ole Miss with a win today - which would be their first sweep of the year.

LSU and Ole Miss had a back and forth game today. It was 4 to 2 for LSU at the end of the fifth. Ole Miss picked up a single run in the 6th and 7th tie the game at 4 apiece. The Rebels got a 2 run dinger for a 6 to 4 lead.
LSU gets two quick outs. Then the Ole Miss pitcher walks a batter and then hits the next one. LSU sends in a pitch hitter. Travinski has a 1-2 count and gets a pitch on the inside of the plate and Travinski gets all of it to knock it over the left field bleacher. LSU holds on the the bottom of the ninth to take a 7 to 6 win and a sweep of the Ole Miss Rebels.
Way to geaux Tigers.

LSU holds on for an 8 to 6 win over Bama in the Friday night SEC game. Bama staged a two out rally in the ninth inning scoring 4 runs before the Tigers got the final out. Bama left two runners on with the winning run at bat.
Paul Skenses picked up his 8th win of the season.

LSU outlasts Bama in two slugfest games Saturday and Sunday. Tigers defeated Alabama 12 to 8 on Saturday that didn't have very much pitching and the game on Sunday ended up 13 to 11. Again not much pitching - Tigers allowed 9 base on balls and 3 hits batsman and Bama allowed 7 walks and 3 batters hit by pitch.
But the Tigers did manage another sweep.

College baseball player shot in middle of game while standing in bullpen 9h ago
An 18-year-old college baseball player was shot by a stray bullet in the middle of a game while he was standing in the bullpen over the weekend.
The incident occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon at a baseball game between Texas A&M – Texarkana and the University of Houston – Victoria at George Dobson Field at Spring Lake Park in Texarkana, Texas, when the unnamed player was struck by a stray bullet from some type of altercation in a nearby neighborhood just west of the baseball field, according to a statement from the Texarkana Texas Police Department.
The baseball player was immediately taken to St. Michael hospital nearby where he underwent surgery for the gunshot wound.
“We initially received several calls of shots fired on Lynda Street, which is in a neighborhood just west of Spring Lake Park. Moments later, we received a 911 call that a baseball player at the park had collapsed and may have been shot,” the Texarkana Texas Police Department said. “We were able to almost immediately determine that the two incidents were related, so as some officers were at the ball field rendering aid to the victim, other officers were on Lynda Street looking for any evidence or witnesses.”
Police officers were able to locate several spent shell casings in the front yard of the residence on Lynda Street and determined that the incident began as a disturbance at that location which eventually led to two men shooting at each other in front of the home when “one of those errant rounds travelled about 400 yards and struck the innocent victim at the ball field.”
The Texarkana Texas Police Department have issued felony warrants for the suspects involved in the shooting and have identified 17-year-old Kamauri Butler and 20-year-old Demarco Banks as those involved. Both Butler and Banks fled the area following the shooting, but officials said that Butler is now wanted for aggravated assault while Banks is wanted for deadly conduct.
“We made arrests of three other men who were [at the home] after detectives obtained a search warrant for the house and several vehicles at the scene,” authorities confirmed. Officers arrested Yankeengea Smith (49) for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon and two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance (methamphetamine and Ecstasy pills), Nathan Moore (19) for Tampering with Evidence and Possession of Marijuana, and Marcell Beaver (19) for Possession of Marijuana.”
The baseball player who was shot is currently in stable condition and expected to recover.
“We've heard that some people are saying that the suspects were either at Spring Lake Park or driving through there when the victim was shot. That's simply not the case at all,” police said in a follow up statement regarding the shooting. “The disturbance and shooting all happened on Lynda Street and had nothing to do with the park itself or any event going on there. Tragically, one of the shots that Butler and Banks fired at each other on Lynda Street travelled several hundred feet and struck the unsuspecting victim at the ballpark.”
The baseball game was called off and the Scout-O-Rama event that was happening in another area of the park was also shut down early as a precaution in the immediate aftermath.

LSU got the midweek win over SE La last night 10 to 0 in 7 innings. Pitching looked good - hope it can stay that away. If the Tigers have any hopes at Omaha this year - the pitching needs to improve. Paul Skenes is the only one that has looked good all year. Others get flashes of greatness, but then the walks come back to plague them.
But considering the opponent last night - Tigers looked good. Twelve hits and 10 runs in seven innings with a couple of dingers.

LSU drops the Saturday game 8 t0 6 and then loses the series to Auburn by losing today 12 to 2. LSU worst game of the year today. Starting pitcher Christian Little didn't record an out in the first inning giving up five runs. Two straight games that he didn't make it out of the first inning.
Pitching needs to get it back together or the Tigers will be watching the college world series from home.

Paul Skenes pitched another jewel last night as LSU defeated Miss State 12 to 1 in 7 innings. He had 13 SO's and only walked one batter. Game two is tonight.
Ty Floyd needs to step up and hopefully pitch better. LSU has been having problems with Ty Floyd and Christian Little as the 2nd and 3rd game starters. Expect Thatcher Hurd to start game three tomorrow.

Guess I was wrong on the pitching. Hurd was the 2nd reliever last night and he didn't record an out. Gave up a double, HR, walk and single for two runs. Then Riley Cooper came in and allowed four more - three charged to Hurd.
Relief pitching sucked to say the least. As I said in an earlier post - LSU better get the pitching back into shape or it is going to be a short post season.
I don't have a clue who will start today.

Relief pitching woes continue. LSU led 12 to 4 heading into the 7th inning 12 to 4 and end up losing the game 14 to 13 in the 10th inning. No relief - need some tums. Second series in a row they have loss - same reason no relief pitching.
