Not sure if this book has been talked about on here or not.... but I just finished it (at the urging of a friend)... Could not put it down... it's a really great read about the sport of baseball and about what's important to certain people as they attempt to scout players and build a roster... I have new respect of Billy Bean (the subject of the book and current GM or the Oakland Athletics)... I highly recommend it to any baseball fan...

I read it a few years ago, and really gives you a perspective on how Billy Beane works, and how different the A's Organization is from anybody else. Amazing though that the team has struggled a bit since this book came out.

Haven't actually read it yet, but I've heard it discussed quite a bit and somewhat understand the concepts about the book. Definitely on a short list for me to read.

It's a really easy read... His philosophies on evaluating talent are somewhat similar to mine... He values guys that have had team success as well as individual success... He likes that they've been around winning and he thinks that attitude propels guys with maybe an inkling less talent to be better teammates and pros... He also values On Base Percentage over Batting Average...

He's pretty analytical in his approach and takes emotion out of the equation from what I've read about the book.

Being on base is more important than batting average, because someone can bat .340 and have an OBP of right around the same number. While a guy who hits .300 and has an OBP of .400 is probably more valuable to the team. Hell I tell that to the kids I coach all the time. I don't care about BA, but you better learn how to win.
