Matt Holliday is going to be traded to the St. Louis Cardinals, Brett Wallace is reportedly involved in the deal.

Deal done. Might put Cards on the fast track to the Central Division title.

What did they give up to get Holliday. That will be some great protection for Pujols.

Seems like a pretty good deal (Holliday will be a free agent after this year though and seems unlikely to resign in St. Louis). Although St. Louis does a great job at getting guys to stay in a great baseball town.

Talk was that Matt, a native of Stillwater Oklahoma, was a Coors Field hitter. Well, that may be but with three hits already tonight he's already paying dividends.

The thing is that when St. Louis does these types of deals it always seems like the re-sign the player too. Once they get to play in St. Louis the players really seem to like it, and several have resigned.

BTB,
Unfortunately, Holliday's agent is Bora$$. Which means he won't sign until he tests the free agent waters. But you are right, folks do tend to like playing in St. Louis.
We'll see if he turns out to be a rental or a (semi)permanent piece of the puzzle.

It really is too bad that an agent is having such a large impact on who teams draft (many avoid Boras clients, and better players slip lower), trade, and setup their future. Tough to blame a guy for trying to get what is best for his clients, but what detrement is it causing? McGwire, Morris, and a few others have remained in St. Louis after being traded there. We will see how Holliday plays the rest of the season, and what he decides to do in the offseason. PS. I also wonder if the clients ALWAYS know what Boras is doing and saying to the teams involved, and if what they really want is being done.

Well, he hasn't proven too much outside of Coors, though he has been hitting well lately and historically is a good hitter within St. Louis' new Busch Stadium. I'm a bit nervous w/ the deals the Cards have made lately, also acquired Julio Lugo..
..though the Cubs are on a bit of hot streak themselves.
