Adam LaRoche was also traded to the Atlanta Braves for Casey Kotchman. I'm really confused as to what Theo Epstein really is thinking. I'm guessing Youk and Lowell will get most of the playing time at 1st and 3rd respectively while V-Mart catches. Otherwise, they'd have 3 1st basemen and 2 3rd basemen on the same roster if they had Jason Varitek catching.

I bet Lowell goes to the bench, Youk to 3rd, V-Mart to 1st, and not sure why they got Kotchman

Which really makes no sense to me, Lowell has been playing very well this year. He has injury concerns, so I guess the rest must be nice, but still.

From what I read, they'll play Martinez in a platoon situation b/t C and First Base. Didn't sound like they had a specific position and starting role for him.

The sad thing is... Lowell will become a situational bat, as he was last night because the poor guy cannot run to first base. If the ball doesn't hit or clear the wall, he isn't going to be on base. Youk will play a significant amount of time at 3rd, with V-Mart at first and Tek catching. My guess is that Tek now gets two days off during the rotation instead of one to keep him more fresh. Youk plays 3rd 4 out of 5 games when V-Mart catches. Lowell may not get to see the starting lineup much at all anymore... sadly. just a guess at what they do the rest of the season.
