Really? He was clutch for them down the stretch. One "Buckneresque" play shouldn't damn him for life. It is like were Phillies fans Nah we love our players no matter what.

MIZ-
I didn't see the reaction to Holliday. But I have a question, was it bad enough to influence him not to sign in St. Louis? I know it is a great baseball town, but he has a lot of options...

MIZ- I didn't see the reaction to Holliday. But I have a question, was it bad enough to influence him not to sign in St. Louis? I know it is a great baseball town, but he has a lot of options... First off I think that Cardinal fans have the stereotype that we always love our players and that we would never boo. That is far from the truth. We expect a lot of our players and when they do not perform, we are not happy. But to answer your question, I think that Holliday will resign with the Cardinals. I see the big contenders being the Red Sox and the Angels. We all know how he played in the AL West before so I would eliminate them. I also think that Boston resigns Bay so I would eliminate them. Holliday is also from Oklahoma so he has a lot of friends and family from around this area. The most important reason he would stay is the pure fact that everybody would jump at the chance to hit behind Albert Pujols. I think he will take the discount and stay in St. Louis.

Big comeback for the Angels as they sweep the Sox Yep. Both So Cal teams bringing out the brooms. At least with them we don't have to worry about snow outs.

Twins self-destruct again. I still think the Yankees are beatable.

Maybe the Phillies, if they can even get past the Rockies. Two power teams playing in two band boxes.
I am pulling for the Rockies though.

I'll take the Angels. The Yankees did not look that great against the Twins -the Twins looked like crap- and the Angels have had the Yankees number as of late.

I wouldn't be so quick to count out the Sox... Holliday is 2 years younger than Bay and very similar of a player... and his name has been brought up by mgmt. prior to the talks of Bays contract came to an end... think it is a strong possibility, as much as I don't want to see it. oh, and the Vols beat the Dawgs, so I am slightly OK with what happened to the Sox

I think Bay is a good fit in Boston, and will certainly resign there. I believe he is from the area, and seems to have contributed well in an enviornment that not all relish.
I am not sure what Drew has left on his contract, but they might be able to get both (if Drew is off the books). Don't that is this offseason though...
Holliday may get some other suitors. Sounds like St. Louis has a lot of parts that might move (Duncan, LaRussa, DeRosa, Holliday?). Will be interesting to see what they do.

Drew still has time on his contract... plus, the Sox can't get rid of Drew... when they get to the playoffs, without him, they wouldn't score any runs.

Yeah Drew got a huge contract (40 Mil) and has been ordinary in the regular season. Pretty solid in the postseason (at least from what I have seen).
Just added a post on the Ted Williams thread in the baseball board.

saw and replied... I am a big fan of Drew and Bay... I say keep them both, add Holliday and move Drew to center (he has played it several times and done well) and get rid of Ellsbury... trade him while you can still get a bunch for him.

I love the way that Ellsbury plays center. He gets to EVERYTHING.
If they didn't have Big Papi plugged at just DH they could be a lot more flexibile in terms of getting guys rest, and signing additional players (even though he got much better as the season went).
Red Sox have a lot of options, and will be interested to see what they have to say in the offseason after being swept by the Angels.

B/c of the late starting time, I saw all of 2 innings of the Phils/Rockies game, but am happy to see the outcome.
Now for a Cliff Lee closeout tonight where we can rest the bullpen and get them ready for the Dodgers series. At least that's how it plays out on paper for me. ;D

I think DeRo is gone. The Cards have a young 3B that will most likely start next year. Duncan and LaRussa go through this every couple of years so I expect them to stay. The only question mark is Holliday

And both LCS are set!! Classic coastal matchups Yanks/Angels and Dodgers/Phils!
So Deac and I have an avatar bet for LCS and the loser will sport the avatar of the winner for the lenght of the WS.

God is good. The Red Sox have been sent packing. Now, if we can just get rid of the Yankees, maybe America can be spared ESPN's slobbering over the Bronx Bombers, in addition to more umpire follies. Angels...continue your hex over these guys!

How much would the MLB dislike a LAA vs. LAD series?
They want the Yankees in the series for ratings purposes.
But with two Left coast teams the start times would be late, and the games would be hard for a large part of the population to follow.
What is the solution? Earlier start times (starting earlier than 9EST/6Pacific) brings into play the dusk time of day with shadows all over the place...
Tough spot for the MLB...

I would take an LAA and LAD series even if it started at 2AM to spare myself from watching and hearing about the Yankees. DVR works fine for me.

I wouldn't mind a LAA vs. LAD series.
The MLB would be the ones upset (and wondering what to do about their late start times, actually they wouldn't really care since the ads would still pay...).
They really want the Yankees, and I am rooting for the Angels (enough about the Yankees already...).
The NL I could go either way. Like the way the Dodgers are playing, but I think the Phillies have the most talented roster in the NL. The bullpen for the Dodgers is really really good though (lots of flamethrowers down there).
Maybe we can get some really good games and series this round.

I hope so. I want the NL to win, so it doesn't matter to me who wins. If the NL wins the World Series, do they get to host the All Star game?
