Zach Greinke won the AL Cy Young today.
Here are the points totals: Greinke: 134 points F. Hernandez: 80 points Verlander: 14 points Sabathia: 13 points Halladay 11 points
It wasn't even close folks. Greinke's 2.16 ERA was good enough to get him the award even with just 16 wins. The right choice in my opinion.

I agree.... 2.16 ERA in the American League is good enough for me....

Just 16 wins? Like that's bad or something? In addition, some of the losses or no decisions that he had came from quality starts. The Royals weren't giving him any run support the vast majority of the time.

He deserved to win, glad the voters got it right. Felix will win it next year though

Knowing everytime you go out, you almost have to be perfect to win is tough.... That's what it's like pitching for offensively challenged teams like KC (and others).... He had a wonderful season...

You know whats funny, I bet Wainwright wins the CY Young and he is not even the best pitcher on his own team

The Royals weren't giving him any run support the vast majority of the time. I said it because it is one of the lower win totals for a Cy Young award winner. I certainly think he is deserving and am sure that Wins is the most overrated stat for a pitcher, but that is for another time. If he would have played for the Yankees he wins 23 games....or more. A great choice, and I am glad that the voters got this one right. Watch out for King Felix...the guy is nasty. The NL winner will be announced on Thursday and I think it goes to Wainwright.

Zach Greinke won the AL Cy Young today. And a $100 million contract with the Yankees in 2 years...

Mildly surprised that CC couldn't garner some more votes.
I didn't think he would win it...but didn't think he would finish that close to the bottom.

Mildly surprised that CC couldn't garner some more votes. I didn't think he would win it...but didn't think he would finish that close to the bottom. He would have had he won 20 games. Outside the wins and strikeouts, the rest of his numbers weren't overwhelming enough for him to get more. I was surprised though that Felix Hernandez didn't get more votes. His ERA was only .34 higher than Greinke and he had more wins and less losses. I know wins and losses aren't everything, but given a similar ERA you would think they might count a little and get him a few more first place votes. I have no problem with Greinke winning, I just figured it'd be a bit closer.

I thought that he was going to get a lot more votes in part because of the number of wins and the media coverage that he got.
I am not disappointed that he didn't get more, as I think the wins stat is incredibly overrated and the other numbers favored the other guys listed.
I really though it was down to Greinke and King Felix.
