I like the signing...only because Dave Duncan is still the pitching coach in St. Louis. He has a hell of a knack for getting the most out of his pitchers (I cannot understand why more teams don't position their defense as effectively as the Cardinals do).
They take away a ton of hits that way...and the reason they can do that is because the pitcher can hit spots. Funny how that works.

I honestly think Dave Duncan will be the first coach (not manager) in the HOF

I honestly think Dave Duncan will be the first coach (not manager) in the HOF It would be perfect justice that Tony and Dave Duncan go into the HOF in the same year... He is a great pitching coach, and what does he focus on? Changeup, location. A great lesson I think. I am sure he has turned down a bundle of manager jobs to stay with LaRussa, and many of LaRussa's wins are thanks to Dave Duncan's success with the project pitchers he gets (remember when Carpenter was one of them, look at guys like Lohse, etc.).

every year when prior to my fantasy baseball draft, I look to see any new pitchers that Dave gets his hands on... I love having his pitchers... like Lohse... struggled a little the second half, but had a great year, especially if you look at what people thout he would do.

He really does work magic. Solid mechanics, a changeup, and location works on all levels.

I think that I will be drafting Penny this year to put him next to Lohse... sweet.. my staff is going to depend on the Cards and D-Backs How about when those guys leave Dave Duncan. They seem to struggle to put up the same numbers. I don't doubt that part of that has to do with Duncan's instruction, but a lot of it is about Yadier Molina (and before him, Matheny), and the defensive positioning.
