I just saw the preview for the movie regarding the MIT student card counters that ripped Vegas for $4MM and it looked great. As a numbers oriented person and a gambler, it appeals to me on multiple levels. If it's half as good as the book, it should be a real treat. Comes out March 28th...

They were all in the MIT Blackjack Club. They ran 4 man teams every weekend during the school year and ran a flawless system until they started stabbing each other in the back for a bigger piece of the pie.

ATL have you ever done the 80/20 in college football?

I haven't. Does it have something to do with the population picks? Ex: Population has 95% of the money on team A, so bet team B? If it is, I pay attention to those, but usually stay away from those games completely. Always willing to listen to new advice though...

teams that are at 80% and above you bet against. That's public picks i get from vegasinsider.....then i pick against 80% games (public). I did extremely well with this simple formula for college football. only seems to work for cfb. Anyway every week it seems a minimum of 10 every week. Fade the public using this formula and you win 80 to 90% of the time.... example: BILLS -8 and jets +8.......80% public pics BILLS I'll take jets......because Vegas is not gonna loose that many games to the public every week.

I haven't bet using that system before, but it might be a nice controlled experiment to conduct. My general system is to almost exclusively bet against lines going on my own instincts. 99% of the public only picks with the spread, so I try to find spreads to bet against. They both operate under the same idea that Vegas isn't in it to lose money. Maybe I should combine the two systems...hmmm

the 80/20 system i use Vegas gives you the teams to play...almost like cards every week it seems to have the same amount of teams that fits this system.

why is card counting illegal? i mean, if you are not using any outside devices or help, i dont see why you shouldnt be able to do it if you are smart enough. how is it nay different than knowing what the odds you have the best hand are in texas hold em?
or is it not illegal?

Yeah, it's not illegal. It's only illegal to use electronic aids, including communications devices like cellphones, to communicate with people assisting you, or for recording the cards played. Same with roulette and the other games. They'll actually supply you with pen and a paper with a wheel diagram on it if you'd like to write stuff down as it comes up.

I've never completely understood the rule about cell phones in Vegas. I actually prefer not sitting next to someone talking on the phone at a table, but at the sportsbook, you can't even have one foot in the room while on the phone. They'll warn you once before they get pretty nasty. Yes. M = 1,000 => 4MM = 4(1,000)(1,000) = 4,000,000
