* Texas Techs passing D was a big question mark since all of the teams they had played were run-based option tams.... The ISU Cyclones averaged 250 yards a game passing..... Tech allowed only 73 passing yards Saturday.
* Through four games, 29.4 of the Red Raiders' offensive plays have gone for 10 or more yards. This mark leads the Big 12 and is second nationally behind Florida State (30.1).
* Tech's defense entered Saturday's game allowing just five plays per game of 10 or more yards; Iowa State logged six such plays. The Red Raiders lead the country in this category, having given up just 21 such plays on the season; only Alabama and Oklahoma (28) have given up fewer than fewer than 30.
* Tech is the only team in the Big 12 that has not allowed a play longer than 36 yards; all other conference teams have allowed at least two, while Baylor has allowed 11.
* Tech has faced four starting quarterbacks so far this season -- Brad Henderson, Shaun Rutherford, B.R. Holbrook and Steele Jantz. If you take away their games against the Red Raiders, those four signal callers are completing 66.5 percent of their passes and have averaged 177.5 yards, 1.5 TDs and 0.35 INTs per outing -- that includes matchups against Texas, Boise State, Iowa and Nevada (twice).
Against Tech, those four starters completed 45.8 percent of their passes and averaged 49.25 yards, 0.25 TDs and an INT per game.
* Tech still has only given up 3 second half points the entire season.
*****
* Texas' defense is one of the worst in the Big 12 in terms of allowing explosive plays. UT has given up 21 plays of 20 or more yards and 10 plays of 30 or more; for the sake of illustration, the Horns rank below Kansas in both categories.
* How about New Mexico hanging tough with Boise State? The Lobos ultimately fell 32-29, but Bob Davie's team rolled up 330 rushing yards on the Broncos, the most the team has ever given up under Chris Petersen.
Some thoughts off the RRS board....
