Bummed by the way that Ajax couldn't score on 10 man Milan allowing Milan to slip into the 16 in their stead.

Both away teams win as Bayern Munich wins 2-0 and Atletico Madrid wins 1-0 Bayern dominated the London club. All visiting teams won their opener. Hard to see Arsenal beating Bayern in Munich in two weeks. Helps when you have the best goal keeper in the world.

A couple of Europa League scores of note (at least to me)- Salzburg shocked Ajax 3-0 and Basel, who knocked M. Tel-Aviv out of the Champions league held them to a scoreless draw in TA in the first leg of their match.
Also, the Euro 2016 draw is tomorrow.

Barcelona beats Manchester City 2-1 in Spain and wins on aggregate 4-1. Paris Ste Germain beats Bayer 04 Leverkusen 2-1 in Paris after winning 4-0 in Germany. Both teams advance.
In the meantime, Bayern President and former team and Germany star Uli Hoeness is sentenced to 3 1/2 years prison for tax evasion. Most people thought he would get off lighter due to his many charitable contributions, but it did not fly with the judge. It will be appealed.

Athletico Madrid surprised F.C. Barcelona by gaining a 1-1 tie in Barcelona putting them in pretty good position for the return game in Madrid. Meanwhile, Bastian Scwhweinsteiger leveled for F.C. Bayern Munich at the 67th minute in the Bavarians game at Manchester United. Wayne Rooney set up Vidic who put the home team ahead 1-0 at the 58th minute. Bayern has the edge now as the return game is in Munich's Alianz Arena.

In the other two quarter finals, Real Madrid beat Borussia Dortmund 3-0 in Madrid. Real will be heavy favorites to move on when they play in Dortmund in the return game. Dortmund was the runner up to Bayern Munich last year. Meanwhile, Paris Saint Germaine beat Chelsea 3-1 in Paris. A late goal in extra time may have given PSG the edge they need to advance to the semi finals. The return match will be across the Channel in London.

Dortmund dominated Real Madrid in the return match winning 2-0, but still lost on aggregate, 3-2 allowing the all time record winning Real team to advance to the Champions League Semis. Borussia dominated the game but could not overcome the loss in Madrid last week. Meanwhile, Chelsea returned home and beat Paris St Germain 2-0, thus advancing to the semis. Chelsea lost in Paris last week 3-1, but virtue of away goals counting twice, they advance.
Tomorrow F.C. Bayern Munich and Athletico Madrid host Manchester United and F.C. Barcelona in return matches. Last week both games ended in draws.

Man U took the lead on Bayern in the 55th minute 1-0 and thus the aggregate lead as well. In less than a minute, Bayern tied the game 1-1 so the aggregate is also tied with 25 minutes left to play

Man U playing the LA Galaxy at the Rose Bowl on July 23rd. They are an old team. Having lots of problems in the Premier League this year. Good job just getting this far in the Champions League. Drawing for the semis will be held Friday.

So, Real hosts Bayern on the 23d with the Bavarians hosting the all time leaders in Euro Championships a week later. Athletico Madrid hosts Chelsea the day before and then returns to England to play the return 8 days later. Strange scheduling though. Six days between Bayern-Real games and 8 days between Athletico-Chelsea games.

The Real-Bayern series should be excellent. It will be interesting to see if Ronaldo is healthy, but either way, I'd favor the Germans to advance. I really hope Atletico takes out Chelsea (can't stand Mourinho) but it will be tough if Courtois isn't permitted to play.

Athletico's ad on the front of their jersey is for Azerbajan. Strange. Chelsea's main sponsor is the more mainstream, Samsung.

Chelsea is not interested in anything but a scoreless tie. Smart tactically if they can keep Athletico from scoring, but this is about an ugly a game as imaginable.
