What is Smith clause? Sanchez? The only thing I'm concerned is the starter in the year 3 deal. Geno Smith could possibly be the Jets starter next year in his 3td season. What if we say he has to have a QB rating of at least 75. That's a pretty low number. Unless of course he doesn't somehow get drafted in the 1st round. Am I the only one who thinks it's bad to the bone that one of us wants bourbon...one scotch.......and one beer? Great song. I'm just happy the reference didn't go unnoticed. I dig some Thorogood

I am sorry but if Winston is performing at Geno's levels if he is the 1st pick, he is a bust like I would say Trent Richardson is a bust given his draft position.

Any of you guys Tampa Bay fans? Just wonder what he'd walk into as far as a line and receivers? TB has some good WRs and a good young TE.

Tampa has too much talent on that team to be as bad as they were. They just never really got it right at QB.

I also think his interviews are going to go very, very well. Many will be surprised about what leaks out about his interviews I believe. Manziel interviewed really well and people came away saying that he was going to be a changed person in the NFL. Talk is cheap. Winston needs to show it with the actions. Maybe, you're right about that, but I'm in a wait and see mode when it comes to his maturation process.

You know I have never gotten in all of the hoopla surrounding his actions in college. I wont now. I'll stick to football related issues with him. I will say one thing about his last interview I saw that would cause a little concern if I were a GM. After playing poorly in a 39 point defeat on the big stage he was talking about how he doesn't lose very much and a huge smile came across his face. If I hadn't watched the game and the volume was down during the interview I would have thought FSU had won. You can say I'm reading too much into this, but I've never seen a happier person after such a game. Then again the giant cheezer came after talking about how rare it is for him to lose. It really does appear as if he only cares about himself

Here my take: out of the league at 3 years is obviously a bust. But I would say if he's not solidly entrenched as the starter he's a bust. (Can Newton is solidly the Panthers starter). EJ Manuel would be a bust to me, benched before the end of his second season. Jake Locker is a bust. I think if there are serious questions about whether he will be the unopposed starter for his team by the end of his third season, you win. If he is, no matter how pedestrian his stats, I win. Bets is off if he misses more than 6 games due to injuries. If he sits his whole first year or most of it, may need to invoke the Alex Smith clause. If the status is totally unclear then we invoke the Sanchize clause. A bottle of scotch for me. six major injuries in three years can do that to a person....... Left shoulder, at Houston, Sept. 30, 2012: Missed five games. Right knee and hip, against Jets, Sept. 29, 2013: Missed two games. Right foot, against Jacksonville, Nov. 10, 2013: Missed seven games. Right thumb, against Cleveland, Oct. 5, 2014: Missed one game. Right wrist, at Cincinnati, Sept. 21, 2014: Missed two games. Left shoulder, against Jets, Dec. 14, 2014: Missed TBD

He's an NFL issue now. I have always liked the kid, but I'm not going to waste a bunch of effort trying to change made-up minds anymore. I think he's going to do well. I have watched him very closely since he was a recruit. I didn't feel that way about Manuel or Ponder. You can say I have pre-concieved bias all you want. I don't. I just call it as I see It. I'm not saying he had to be in tears or moping. There's a difference in handling the defeat well and holding your head up high and being giddy as if the loss wasn't really a big deal. Just my take. I've never seen a happier guy in that situation.

This coming from a Bama fan who's sister is friends with his mom, who also not a fan of. Between the end of last seasob and the draft he did an interview on the Dan Patrick show. You could tell from that he was uber arrogant and self absorbed. My sis blew it off. Then after the Ole Miss game this year he talked about how this years team lacked leadership. On top of that he called out Saban of sll people. She saw what I was saying then. Fuck that guy and the womb he came from. I may not always be right, but I only call it as I see it

If you are picked in the first round--3 years later you are not contributing to any team and there hasn't been a debilitating injury--you're officially a bust. Wasted first round pick.

Can't be Tebow who was in the league for 3 years and then out in the 4th. I believe the Alex Smith clause is that he sat a year, but is still solidly a starter. I'm OK with the parameters. The Alex Smith clause was missed time due to injury. It wasn't clear that he was a decent NFL starter because he missed so much time due to shoulder injuries and whatnot. So that would invoke an extension, I think. The Sanchize clause is when the guy has some good, some bad and the good is good enough that it's just reasonable to look for more time. But with the Sanchize clause, the bet parameters double. I think with the Smith clause the bet stays the same. I think we have a bet!

OK, swan, let's hammer out the details. At 3 years, if you're right, Jameis will clearly be a bust. How do you define that? I say he won't be a bust but will probably be pretty good. I want this to be about his ability in the field. If he blows up off the field (rape, DUI, theft, drug suspension), the bet is off. Agreed? Now tell me how you define a bust so we can clearly decide if you win the bet. I will post my criteria for success, and then we can decide the stakes. I'd also like a 1 or 2 year clause at the end that either of us can invoke to delay the reckoning by that amount of time if its not clear (a la Mark Sanchez at 3 years). But if you invoke the clause the stakes increase (I say double but we can negotiate that). What say you? How can you take the bet off the table because of off field idiocy. That plays as much part into being a bust as on field performance. See Pac-Man Jones, all the talent in the world but so bad off the field it kept him off the field, to a certain degree that means bust.... Either the guy is actively helping on the field in three years or he is not, it doesn't matter why

I'm basing this solely on his ability to play at the NFL level.

Alex Smith had injuries but showed promise when he played. Locker has many of the same problems in Tennessee that he did at UW with inaccuracy and poor decision making and limited vision. So he would have been a bust anyway

I think we both see his off.the field issues as potentially a major stumbling block. Putting those aside, it's whether he can make it skill wise where our opinions diverge dramatically.

I see where his son was sentenced to prison for a year for failing to pay his taxes. Please link where the guy went to prison for life becuase all I can find are articles about him being inducted in the NFL HOF and of him dying at age 59 of cancer. You'd think a prison sentence would be prominent somewhere in the first 15 articles on google wouldn't you???
