Who says it’s too early to start ranking teams for next season? ESPN is already looking ahead to the 2015 season, releasing its preseason FPI rankings. And wouldn’t you know it — the SEC is well-represented at the top. For a quick refresher, here’s how ESPN explains the Football Power Index (FPI): FPI is an estimate of team strength – not a ranking of who will have the highest win total (which is dependent on schedule) and not who is most likely to make the College Football Playoff. Preseason FPI is calculated using three major components for each FBS team: prior years’ offense, defense and special teams efficiencies; returning starters and head coach information; and recruiting rankings. It is, for all intents and purposes, a ranking of which teams are the best on paper. Last year, three of the top four teams in preseason FPI (Florida State, Alabama and Oregon) made it to the College Football Playoff. Here’s this year’s preseason top four: 1. Ohio State 2. Alabama 3. LSU 4. Baylor Oregon, which made it to the national title game this past year, ranks fifth, while TCU, snubbed from the playoff, is sixth. The SEC placed five teams in the top 10 and 10 teams in the top 25. Here’s where the conference ranks overall: 2. Alabama 3. LSU 8. Ole Miss 9. Georgia 10. Arkansas 11. Texas A&M 14. Tennessee 18. Auburn 22. Mississippi State 24. Missouri 27. Florida 40. South Carolina 48. Kentucky 52. Vanderbilt www.saturdaydownsouth.com/sec-football/espn-preseason-fpi-sec-top-25/

You put SC up WAY high, ends up, they sucked..... But TAMU got the boost.... Then LSU up WAY high... MiSs gets their boost... Everyone gets a boost early and it fucks up the whole process....

I am curious about how many times Baylor has to choke on a national stage before it starts to hurt their ranking.

David, seriously, this is a stupid ass index in February to simply get folks like you all fired up, one way or another. This dumb ass ranking has absolutely no bearing on a damn thing at all. You can see how much that bias helped the SEC last season when it was all said and done, right? So, chill out. Go find one of the trees in Lubbock and sit in the shade for awhile and cool off. Lord have mercy! You might need to shoo some cows first.

Never in the history of mankind have so many teams from one conference been so overrated. Can anyone name any of the starting quarterbacks on any of these teams? Oh, and by the way...most of them had the same issue this year and after those bowl whuppins not sure where this love is coming from.

Never seems to hurt Georgia's I beg your pardon? Oh, I am following you and get your slinging, but of all the teams? Georgia, really??? 10 wins in 9 out of 14 years under Richt. But, yes, you are doing it right and have it down, if I must say so myself. Well done, sir. Oh, and welcome to the SEC.

Believe me, I would take that in a heart beat, but that was kinda the point...always seem to be a game or two away from something even bigger, but never quite get there. But that's just from the outside looking in.

That way opinion has no bearing on things.

Well, 96, if you looked closer you would see there is perception, reality, and then a bunch of excuses I could come up with to "explain" away a few of what you seem to be terming a disappointing season. UGA has a had some good teams, but not one totally dominating team that caught lightning in a bottle the whole season. I mean, not all teams can be like Auburn in 2013 with winning games like they did. That is how thin the line can be between what one might call a great season, or a disappointing season. Two incredibly unlikely wins to get them into the MNC. Yep, UGA takes hits, but that is the way it goes sometimes. Heck, in 2005(?), UGA lost three games by a total of 8 points. Auburn on a miracle play 31-30. Florida 14-10 with Georgia having to use a back up QB the whole game and the WV team 38-35 in a crazy ass game. Some teams just seem to have poorer luck than others when compared directly. Others will call it poor coaching. Me, I call it football.

I honestly don't care, but I think it would be hilarious if the CFP puts 3 SEC teams in the playoff his year knowing this..
Quote: Texas Tech athletics director Kirby Hocutt has been appointed to the College Football Playoff (CFP) Selection Committee, announced CFP Executive Director Bill Hancock. Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby nominated Hocutt; and his nomination was ratified by the CFP management committee. Hocutt will replace former West Virginia athletics director Oliver Luck who left for a position at the NCAA.

Bowlsby thinks A&M is still in the big 12.

How is it even pooinle to misspell a word that bad? It's not remotely pooinle to misspell a word that badly. The only thing I can pooinly think is that it is pooinle that it was a different word altogether that he was trying to spell and that it is pooinle that the word we think it was, was not it. Now it is also pooinle it is that word and it's just that we've spelled it wrong as a nation for a hundred plus years and david just corrected the error of our ways, if that is even pooinle
