Too bad Auburn and Florida don't play this year. Might rival LSU-Texas A&M for comedy.

Well, in Muschamp's defense, sometimes you can't always manage the roster perfectly. I remember when Coach Richt had numerous players leave for the NFL one year, whether it was Junior's leaving early, or was due to grades/discipline. Sometimes, shit happens that you can't always account for. I mean, besides the obvious jokes a few rivals can throw out there about UGA, Georgia went through a period of time where kids were getting busted for pot, etc, which at UGA is mandatory suspensions. Well, with Mark Richt and the policy at UGA, some kids were asked to go elsewhere after too many run ins. Now, would these same run ins have the same end result at other schools? I don't know. My point is sometimes you can't predict what players are going to do, nor if they are going to leave early even though their realistic chances of making it in the NFL as an undergrad is kind of iffy.
These factors alone had left Georgia bare in some categories in the past simply due to circumstances. I mean, look how many DB's UGA lost a while back. I think we had 8 leave/transfer/got booted from '13-'14?
No, not a specific answer to what happened in Florida, just an option of what can come into play that can cause deficiencies in a certain position group.

If both Humphries and Moore were still on the roster, Florida would still be DREADFULLY short of offensive linemen.

The Gators were short on the O-line last year also. Muschamp can shirk the responsibility all he wants, but he was the boss. And FTR, McElwain never said there weren't any good players on the Gators. He just noted the shortage on the O-line and at linebacker. And he also said he would deal with it. Fuck Muschump!!

If you spend the first few months of your new job making excuses why you can't do a good job, you're probably not the right person for the job.

So, if a new Sheriff gets elected and finds out he needs 15 new squad cars -and then has the balls to point it out as a fact - he's the wrong guy for the job?
Brilliant analysis. Top notch stuff, right there.

Thinking from a recruits perspective, he should have never stated publicly about the lack of talent. UF has had a top 25 recruiting class every year, and these guys are working for him to win football games. If I were getting recruited now and knew he talked so badly about the top 25 recruiting classes he inherited I would question whether I wanted to play for him or not. Butch Jones stated that they were going to build the program "brick by brick", and not that what they inherited was insufficient to compete in the SEC. Very unprofessional of him to insult the current talent.

It's amazing how poorly people understand what was actually said. Everyone jumped to conclusions based on headlines and message board narratives as opposed to actually reading what the man said. Typical.
Stating as fact that you're practicing with seven offensive linemen and four linebackers is just being honest. What's he supposed to say? Serious question.
And people looking at recruiting rankings, without understand what that they have little bearing on how a roster is made up, is nonsensical.
McElwain may not be the guy for UF, but him being honest about the make up of his roster surely isn't going to be a factor in whatever success or failure that he ends up having.

I hear you, RHV and Groot, as my take on this was more along the lines as your all's take and understanding. Maybe he should come in and just deal with the facts of the team, accept the reality and just maybe say something a little less like he is of offering them up for somewhat of a kind of built in excuse. Sounds like that to me. All teams are going to have moments in their histories where the roster gets skewed and lack depth in certain player groupings. It happens, and reasons will vary as to why. And, when it does happen, the dumb ass fans that are usually the loudest, and believe me, UGA has their share, will call out Coach "whoever" for allowing such to occur. Just my take, and simply one opinion.

I'd trade a few defensive backs for a few offensive linemen.

But shit, football season is still almost 5 months away. College hoops ends tonight. My Penguins already quit on the season, and my Pirates hope for a 162-0 season is already gone. I'm bored here so what better way to deal than poking the Gator a bit? I understand both sides. The old coach doesn't want to say he left the cupboard bare. The new coach wants to set the bar low. McElwain could turn out to be a great coach. But when I get bored, it's easy for me to turn to asshole techniques just to pass the time.
