LSU pulls one out tonight. Trailing 2 to 1 in the top of the ninth with two outs and a one ball - two strike count, the batter walks. The next batter for the Tigers is hit by a pitch. Then a wild pitch moves the runners to 2nd and 3rd. Tre Morgan hits a line drive single up the middle to make it 3 to 2 for the Tigers. Then Dylan Crews jacks one into the right field stands to make it 5 to 2.
Then LSU gets a good relief job in the ninth for the win.
Way to geaux Tigers.

Tigers win the series in Starkville today beating Miss St 4 to 3. Tigers get clutch pitching today from the relievers. Made 3 errors but got away with it. Berry hit a 3 run shot in the first inning to lead the way.

The Vols are off to a great start this year - undefeated in conference play with a 11-0 record and only one loss for the year at 30-1. They lead the league in hitting and pitching. They have a great team.
Rest of the league is chasing them right now.
Georgia is a surprise so far - second place in the east.

Tigers sweep the Miss State Bulldogs by a score of 13 to 3 in the Sunday final. This was the best weekend of the season for LSU. Very timely hitting and solid pitching.
Geaux Tigers.

Well, the series between LSU and Miss State came and went. Many thought this could be the turning point for both. If LSU could get a series win then they could start a run but they got the sweep.
I am not sure that LSU is a national title contender just yet but one thing is apparent, we know that the 2022 Mississippi State baseball team is not all that.
And yet its OK, for now. Getting on top was hard but staying there is even tougher.

Defense cost the Tigers a win over the 5th ranked Arkansas team 5 to 4. Only one error was charged against LSU, but outs turned into hits let the Hogs get the win.

Damn Diamond Dogs got their asses taken to the Dawg Pound and left behind. Got whooped. Got their assess handed to them. The thinness in the Bullpen due to injury, etc sure showed.
A&M 23 - Georgia 9. (And, no...that is a BASEBALL score!) Yeeeeeouch!

State of Mississippi State Baseball - Your defending National Champions -šš
Mississippi State gets swept by LSU at home two weekends ago, who gets swept by Arkansas this past weekend.
Three pitchers out with injury including one of the best pitchers in all of college baseball in Landon Sims and then two key bull pen pieces. That's on top of replacing the leadership from last years team from both position players in Rowdy Jordan and all world Tanner Allen, plus all the starting pitching from last year with some bullpen talent as well. That's a lot to replace. This year was going to be tough no matter what after several straight Omaha appearances. The talent cycle has definitely ran it's course.
The state of MSU Baseball seems bleak but is it really?
They just took a series from Auburn, who was a ranked opponent, loosing the last game 3-2. Mississippi State is sitting at 6-9 in the league which is near the bottom but has 8 Quad One wins and is starting to settle on some starting pitching and some of this young position talent is starting to jell. They got KC Hunt back from injury added to the bullpen which helps. The HR's, slugging percent and batting averages are creeping up. Even the veterans like Luke Hancock are seeing the ball much better.
In order for State to make the post season, they are going to have to get on a roll. A sweep of Auburn would have had me getting excited that it was possible but that didn't happen. State has a tough hill to climb to get back in the post season hunt. RPI sitting at 80 as I type but lots of opportunities still ahead. They were at 91 last week, only one team has ever made the post season ranked that low this late in the season. So, you tell me there is a chance?
Bottom line, no one will want to see State in their regional if they make it. This team has talent, but the hole it is in may be too hard to climb out.

Achieve a .500 record in SEC play and win a game in the tournament and they will make it. LSU has a better SEC record at present, but the Tigers probably have to win three of the last four SEC matchups to get a post season invite. This is the time to win.

LSU completes the sweep of the Missouri Tigers and moves to 10-8 in SEC play. LSU is still making too many errors. Relief pitching has been pretty good lately and is one of LSU's strong points.

Mississippi State just lost two more pitchers to injury and it looks like for the year. It has gotten to the point that they are using position players to pitch, especially in mid-week games.
Having said that, they still took the series from Ole Miss over the weekend. All three starters went 5 innings and had them in the game.
Injury bug started with Landon Sims who was to be our Friday starter. Then these guys out of the Bullpen Stone Simmons, Parker Stinnett and Brooks Auger. Simmons and Stinnett were veteran relievers that could start if needed. Auger is a true So. that had the best ERA on the team in shorter outings.
State is still putting a competitive team out there with about 1/3 of it's pitchers out with injury. Brandon Smith, Cade Smith & Preston Johnson have settled into to the starting rotation all of them have given quality starts over the past few weeks. Then KC Hunt has come back from injury to be that shut down closer that was missing earlier in the year. That leaves Johnny all staff for the middle innings.
IF this teams somehow makes the post season, no one will want them in their regional.
