College football fans may have to brace for major changes to the sport's rulebook.
According to The Athletic, college football officials will soon discuss the possibility of adding a two-minute warning to games. The belief is that would help out the sport for "clock, rule change and commercial break purposes."
Of course, a two-minute warning is nothing new to NFL fans. They've been used to that rule they're entire life.
College football, on the other hand, has always had different rules when it comes to the clock. In recent years, however, the sport has slowly shifted to a more pro-style operation.
Last year, the rules committee tweaked how it handles first downs. Outside of the final two minutes, the clock runs after a first down. The old rules called for the clock to stop until the chains were set.
Adding a two-minute warning would change how college football teams operate late in games, especially those trailing. They'll basically have an extra timeout to make adjustments.
In theory, a two-minute warning will make games a tad longer. That shouldn't be an issue thought for those who live and breathe college football.

So last year it was that games are too long. Now this year, we need to add a two minute warning. Good for another couple of Dr Pepper and Heisman House commercials I guess.

Never understood the 2 min warning. Everyone is capable of reading a clock for the first 58 min, yet we have to stop the game to let those same everyone's know there is only 2 min left in the game.

It's to the point where I just don't care about keeping up with the constant changes year in and year out. And consequently, the game itself.

Agree. Never have figured out why except for TV commercials. Only other sport that I have noticed some sort of warning was the 1 minute notice during hockey periods. But that is different because play isn't stopped and players on the ice are not looking at the clock. Again, I think it is purely a $$ thing.

Basically it gave the pros an extra time out and IMO the biggest reason - another commercial break. Thank TV for that.

I remember the old clock we had when I played basketball in high school. The light on the clock would turn darker and that indicated one minute left in the quarter.

i mean, we already went to 'out of bounds doesn't stop the clock'... to first downs don't stop the clock.... now we get a 2 min warning...... remember when the clock started on the kickoff instead of when it was caught they changed that rule thankfully.....

It seems to me that, as time goes by, people make changes in everything, whether those changes are good or not.

Yeah, I remember my first job at NASA in Houston. Everything seemed to be in constant change. So we would say, the only thing constant around here is change itself.

Yes, change happens. That's nothing new. The volume and pace of changes to CFB the last few years is new.

Speaking of stupid clock changes, we all have to lose an hour of sleep this weekend once again. Daylight Starts Too-late time begins Sunday morning.

That’s a function of the tilt of the earth’s rotational axis and has nothing to do with a clock.

I hate getting up in the dark, and it is particularly dangerous for young children who must wait for a school bus or walk to school in the dark. DST is directly responsible for increased heart attacks in middle-aged and older people as well. It is unnatural and has a detrimental effect on the workforce and future generations of America.

I understand it has nothing to do with a clock...I still like daylight after I get done for the day and enjoy pool nights and nights in the driveway with the neighbors having cocktails.
My boys have always enjoyed it too because their sports activities are under the lights less. They prefer playing under natural light...but hey...some like morning light. I like evening light. To each their own

Good thing you do not reside in Norway.
