Little late getting my tomato's planted this year. I am also cutting back on the number of tomato plants. Also trying a different varieties this year. BeefSteak and Better Boy.
But I did buy individual plants this year so that should help with the late planting. Usually by the end of June - tomato plants are doomed.
But nothing is as good as home grown tomatoes.
Everyone have a great weekend and enjoy.

You should try growing some heirloom varieties next year. Some of them are really good and some are pretty cool looking too. I always grow a couple pots of the yellow pear tomatoes. Really sweet and easy to grow here in Colorado. I can’t start until after Mother’s Day here though. We still get snow into May.

I have had a huge garden in the past with several types of tomatoes. My favorite tomato from my garden was the Mr. Stripey. It was peculiar looking, but very tasty all by itself. I too love home grown vegetables.

I learned nothing beats a freshly picked, ripe tomato off the vine during the hot Summer months in the South. I had never had a "Tomato Sandwich" before until my friend, Terri, plucked one of her "Cherokee Purple" from the vine and made me a sandwich which consisted of four ingredients ...white bread, Dukes mayo, fresh cracked pepper and thick cut slices of tomato. All I can say is I became a fan of such after my first bite. Dayum... if I am not anxious until those days arrive. But, I can wait through Spring to get there. Cheers!

Fruit sandwiches seem to be a southern thing that other parts of the country think are crazy until they try them. My North Carolina born mother made tomato sandwiches, banana sandwiches, and pineapple sandwiches (canned pineapple) and always with Duke's mayonnaise. We weren't fussy about white or wheat bread, although I have always preferred wheat. There is no question that garden fresh tomatoes are much better than the industrial farm variety.

My family has grown Beef Steak tomatoes before and they are a great tomato but Tim is correct, the Cherokee Purple is special and is an heirloom so you can do like my father used to do and save and dry the seeds for next year.

Add some thick cut bacon to that sandwich and you have my wife and my favorite summer sandwich, but we substitute Aldi's Tuscan sliced bread for white bread.

This is how I grow a garden, I make this out of a 5 gallon bucket and run air lines to pump air into the water in the bucket. I use Jacks 123 hydro fertilizer and Spider Farm lighting, this gives me total control on the plants grow.
