Looks to be sticking with the 8 game schedule for at least another year. Probably waiting for the remaining Pins to fall before revamping the format.

Although yet to be confirmed, allegedly 8&4 and UGA play in the same conference.
UGA has yet to visit Kyle Field, even though 7&5 has been in the conference since 2012.

Yeah, that is one of the stupidest things going. They had the perfect opportunity this year but decided everyone would play either OU or Texas. Were supposed to go in 2021 but the Covid schedule of 2020 knocked everything out of whack. Regardless, dumb.
I think once they stayed at 8 for this year, it was inevitable that they would simply flip it for at least the next year. It puts off having to make the 9 game decision which some schools still oppose. For the first time in memory, we have a nice home schedule with Texas, Bama, Ole Miss, Kentucky and two garbage games with road trips to UCLA, Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Miss State, Auburn and the trip down to Jacksonville.

Don't hate me, BD, but the rumor mill is warming up and sounds like UCLA may be cancelling the UGA game in 2025 as they are joining the Big10 and that Georgia may be too tough a game for them, even if it is in their own backyard! Here is what their 2025 schedule looks like for now. You tell me...

I think it less this schedule than that of the following year when they are supposed to come to Athens. Lots of traveling for those west coast Big Ten teams. And I can hear it now, "Georgia should be ashamed of the non conference schedule". Just like we heard last year. They won't be the first of these to go by the wayside.

In 2026 UCLA plays at Georgia, Michigan, Minnesota and Maryland away from the west coast.

In 2026 UCLA plays at Georgia, Michigan, Minnesota and Maryland away from the west coast. It stands to reason to cancel the 2026 game than it is for them to cancel the Home game. We shall see. Just a "rumor" worthy enough of a Dawg writer to mention it louder than just a message board proclamation. Oh well, we were there when it mattered back on 1/1/2018!

Starting to see some of same rumors. Could be that Georgia and UCLA both want out. For UCLA it would be travel issues. For Georgia, it would mean 9 game conference schedule looks to be coming and they don't want to play all 12 games against Power 5 teams. 2026 has UCLA, Louisville, Tech. 2027 has FSU, Louisville, Tech. Several of the outlying years also have 3 Power 4 opponents as well.
Florida has similar issues. In 26 they have Campbell and Cal at home and NC State and FSU on the road. One of those games has to go. If you cancel Campbell, you only have 5 games in the Swamp. If you cancel Cal, they will surely cancel the next year. You cannot cancel FSU. If you cancel the Wolfpack, they will follow suit.
We can expect more of this since Georgia and Florida have not only a mandatory in state non conference opponent, but also that tie up with Jax.

I didn’t hear UGA should be ashamed, but more of it being embarrassing… big difference IMO as one implies fault much more than the other.

You didn't hear multiple national commentators lump Georgia and Michigan together and suggest they needed to be punished by the committee to discourage such scheduling? Georgia had the Oklahoma game cancelled by the SEC. Michigan chose to cancel their Arkansas game. Turns out Georgia's schedule turned out to be more difficult than projected.

In the regular season you can't play a team that doesn't want to schedule you. Just ask Boise State, Central Florida, or any other previous mid-major that wanted to compete for championships.

Urban Meyer on Big Noon Kickoff
“Then the other thing is now you’re in a 12-game playoff starting next year and I think these games are going to go away and I’m scared about that,” Meyer said on Wednesday. “Look at the team up in Ann Arbor (Michigan). You shouldn’t be allowed to play that schedule. Georgia is playing a schedule that, at the end of the day, you’re supposed to be penalized for that, and they’re not.
"So why would Ohio State play this game? Well, because it’s the right thing to do, it’s for the fans, it’s for the good of the game. It’s for everybody.”
Hmmmm, his Buckeyes cancelled a home and home with Washington that was supposed to start this year. Why? Because Gene Smith came out and said he wanted 8 home games. Now, subsequently Washington joins the Big Ten, much like OU did to the SEC. Last year, Ohio State scheduled ND in South Bend and UGA scheduled OU in Norman. I would call that a toss up.
