Did I post this on the Political Board by accident? If so, thank the moderator who moved it.

Back in '73, maybe '74, my Dad did a film with him and Timothy Bottoms up in Baffin Island(go to Greenland, turn left) called, The White Dawn. The were seal hunters and worked with the local Inuits. At one point while shooting a scene, the boat they were in tipped over and all three went into the water. A lot of concern for the three actors, but they were wearing their seal skin outfits, and helped lessen the "damage", although all were a "bit tight" after the fact, with more precautions applied when asked to act when on the water. A selfish second side story, I loved the postcards and letters my father would write us from there. He love ed hearing the sound of laughter of the local children as they were enamored with these foreign folks from Hollywood. Made my dad miss us, and loved reading those words after he passed eight years later. Wish I still had them, but they, and a lot of other personal items like HS yearbooks, etc., were stolen when I was moving back to California after college, and my car got stolen in Phoenix! Dad really enjoyed Lou, and Timothy and had a friendship. I wish I could have met him as I have always admired him, and he seemed he would command respect from others as he seemed to be that kind of man. I do not know. Just wanted to share the story, and may Lou rest in peace! God bless!!

Louis Gossett caught my attention and just stunned me with his portrayal of an alien opposite Dennis Quaid. When he portrayed the drill sergeant in An Officer and a Gentleman, I thought he was one of the true genius actors of our time. I am very sad to learn that he has passed, but his impact on my generation will never die. Thank you, Louis Gossett, Jr.!

Enemy Mine was a favorite of mine as well Vessie.
Sometimes people think of “character actor” as a negative but I think LGJ was great as a character actor. He had great range and like Carl Weathers he seemed to be very versatile and at least from what I know he seemed like a stand up guy.
R.I.P.
