I was at a doctor's office and when they tested my blood oxygen - it was 85. The nurse went searching for an oxygen tank and came back with one. I was given support oxygen intake and my blood oxygen finally reached 90.
"A normal level of oxygen is usually 95% or higher. Some people with chronic lung disease or sleep apnea can have normal levels around 90%. The “SpO2” reading on a pulse oximeter shows the percentage of oxygen in someone's blood"
My provider wanted to call an ambulance, but my wife and I headed out to the hospital near our home. I went to the emergency room and checked in. I told them I had a my oxygen content was low and had a shortness of breath.
After a while, I was taken to an ER room. My vitals were checked and my oxygen count was 88, I was hooked up to supplement oxygen. It took about 5 hours to get checked into the main section of the hospital. I was hooked to the supplementary oxygen and at level 3. Blood was drawn, IV installed and the journey was on. X-Ray and CT Scan showed about over 50% of my right lung was Pneumonia infection.
So the treatment begin - antibiotics thru the IV, cough suppressants given three times a day, and boy lots of blood drained. Lots of pills given and the last thing given at night - a shot in the stomach to prevent blood clots.
But today at about 4pm I was released. They have my blood oxygen back up at 95 after clearing my right lung of Pneumonia. I have a bunch of follow up stuff to do.
We bitch and complain about hospital care a lot, but I take my hat off to the people who helped my this week. Hospitals run 24 hours a day - never closing. They help a lot of people. They are first line responders. HEROS.
