Actually I have to admit that USUALLY I find Herbstreit better than most, granted the bar is not very high, just look to Herbstreits right for some of what I mean, but those comments rubbed me the wrong way and he makes them about alot of schools, what a little f*cker, he needs an "attitude adjustment" as my dad used to call them

He's worse than Mark May and Lou Holtz..

That goes a bit too far gobigred, I mean Mark May can barely dress himself he is so freakin stupid, and I think the knowledge is inside of Lou Holtz but with him sounding like Sylvester the cat anymore its hard to take him seriously

He was being less than kind about their chances of winning the Big Ten, rippin their schedule this year, listen I know last years schedule was not ideal, partly their fault (they scheduled Buffalo), partly not their fault (Oregon State was supposed to be there and cancelled over the summer forcing them to schedule Western Illinois last minute, and they do not control their Big Ten schedule), but what is wrong with this years schedule:
1) Washington State (they look like a very good offense, and I have seen some prognosticators having them finish as high as second in the Pac10, whats wrong with this for a season opener) 2) at UNLV (not a great team, but this game is for the boosters and alumn, they insist on this trip every four years, but that said it is ON THE ROAD and I have always said if the opponent is legit D1 and the game is on the road I would never kill any team for a game like that on the schedule) 3) The Citadel (ok this on sucks, no excuses, they could have atleast scheduled D1 here I would think....... that said they do have a big game the followign week so since eit is on the schedule this aint the worst thing to happen to the team) 4) Iowa (this is ABC's Saturday night, national prime time game, Iowa is going to have a great "D" this year, this is a very good game) 5) Michigan State (does anybody know what to think about MSU this year???) 6) at Illinois (a very dangerous game on the road this year, playing in Champaign what is wrong with this??) 7) at Penn State (legit preseason top 25 team, preseason sleeper for Big Ten title, this is a great game on the road) 8) Northern Illinois (not a great game but satisifies the MAC contract that the Big Ten has and dictates to its schools) 9) Indiana (we'll see with the new coach, but under Hoeppner I though this team was on the come, now I'm not sure) 10) at Ohio State (preseason top 10 team, give me a break this is as big as it gets) 11) Michigan (so called preseason game of the year, this is elite) 12) at Minnesota (for outsiders looking in Minnesota might not strike fear in you but remember this is Wisconsins biggest rival by far, this is the oldest rival in all D1 football, for the two teams involved this is Auburn-Alabama, throw the records out, so this is solid if you take the time to actually know about it)
So tell me what is wrong with this years schedule, I'm sorry but there are a couple of D1 schools that I would say have better schedules but there are 119 D1 schools and IMO there are MAYBE 5 schools with definitively better schedules, everything else I have sen is slight shades of gray depending on your own bias and view point.

Actually..the Husker non-conference schedule is better...but the conference schedule apparently isn't very good due to the Big XII being "down."
Anyway..you know how you referred to Wazzu being predicted to finish 2nd in the Pac-Ten, were you referring to me?

I'm talking total schedule, both OOC and conference as a whole. And now I was not referring to you. I have actually seen some "real" columnists pick WSU to finish that high in the PAC10, personally after having seen them today in action their offense is good enough to do just that, but I think their defense and kick coverage is too lacking to pull it off, I think 5th place and a bowl game is definitely an achieveable goal for this WSU team though

You want last year's in-conference schedule excused because "they do not control their Big 10 schedule", but you want to include the Big 10 conference slate in defense of this year's schedule. Which is it?....

Huh?? What are you talking about, what does one have to do with the other. One is an argument about the perception of HOW a team schedules and why a schedule happened the way it did in the past, the other is about the strength of the actual schedule at hand for that season, I never said UW had a good schedule last year I merely explained why it happened, but why take that out on THIS years schedule. The two are mutually exclusive and have absolutely nothing to do with eachother

You do realize that bloggers in crack magazines don't count as "real" columnists, don't you? I've seen no one with even a milligram of credibility, actually no one at all, make such an asinine claim. I've seen WSU guestimated no higher than 8th in the Pac 10, and I've got all the preseason mags. I have Phil Steele right here and he's got them predicted 9th between Washington and Stanford -- btw, these three are pretty much unanimously expected to finish 8th, 9th or 10th in some order. Athlon has them finishing 8th.
You must have been reading some pro-Wisconsin columnist that was just trying to build up the game into something significant for the excitement. That happens.

I know where the overhwhelming majority of writers and mags have them picked and even I said somewhere else (maybe not this thread but in another one) that I did not buy them finishing that high for a second but like I said in this thread, their offense is legitimately good, that is not me fluffing them, they don;t need me to do that, but they should be good they are a veteran offense with a very good QB, but their defense is not good and their special teams are not speical which will cost them games but their offense is good enough to win games against lesser team and good enough to keep them in games against equal or better teams but their defense will cost them eventually against the better teams and probably some of the equal teams. Again as I also said, i think base don what I saw today a 7-5 record should be an achieveable goal for WSU this year depending on how their sked shakes out, IMO they SHOULD (maybe they won't but they should) beat Idaho, SDSU, Stanford and the two Zona schools IMO and then they just need two more "unexpected wins" out of their other six to accomplish that goal. Hey App State won today, doesn't sound that crazy to me, WSU's offense is better than alot of teams I saw this weekend, maybe you think I am building them up because they played Wisky but I think I am usually a pretty good judge of when i see good things on the ball field

I don't think WSU at number 8 is because they're bad, but because this season has been looking like the only really bad team would be Stanford. I don't think there was a lot of gap between #4 and #8 at all.
Arizona has shown today that they might still not be ready for prime-time though I've heard people say good things about BYU. Arizona's going to have to pick it up from today's performance considerably to avoid sitting at #9 on top of Stanford, or worse, losing to Stanford.

I buy that Sadovin, in that I think your right that the difference between #8 and #4 is probably negligible in the Pac 10 this year, I think USC and Cal are clearly at the top of the conference and UCLA is PROBABLY up there somewhere too (I just always have a hard time believing in UCLA not sure why) but after that no one looks much better than the other

The two are mutually exclusive and have absolutely nothing to do with eachother Well, I'm talking about the comments you've made in this thread. You address last season's schedule by stating that it was "not ideal", but offer up an excuse for the conference slate due to the fact Wiscy had no control over it. You follow up on this year's slate wanting to include the conference portion of the schedule as part of your argument that Wiscy's schedule is just as good as anyones.... Seems a little inconsistent....

Its not inconsistant at all, I was merely pointing out that if you want to question last years schedule it is understandable (and I just pointed out the reasons for last years less than desireable schedule, and I was inclduing the whole schedule last year just pointing out how.why it happened) however what happened in the past shouldn't taint this years schedule, we still don;t control our BT schedule BUT just because we do not control it doesn;t mean that it isn;t better this year. I think you are mistaking wanting to take credit FOR the scheduling schedule with assessing the strength OF the schedule. The two are completely separate issues, my point here being that regardless of who gets credit FOR the schedule the kids playing the game have to play THIS schedule and THIS schedule is a good schedule, understand the difference??

I think a writer in outer mongolia picked WSU to win the NC. Does that make the schedule any tougher? The Big 10 needs to drop that MAC affilliation, it is BS.

I don;t really see the MAC contract as a big deal, I am fine with the UNLV game because it is ON THE ROAD, and WSU is a fine OOC game, the only game I have a problem with is The Citadel, that game should be traded in for at worst a a high level midmajor or middle tier BCS conference school (ala WSU), overall with conference included the schedule is decent becasue we do play so many of the top Big Ten schools but they could have really had a very good schedule without that Citadel game, the part that really burns is that Citadel game was supposed to be against VT and it got "rescheduled" to the 2016 season, ugh.
