The key to West Virginia's "shaky" defense is 3rd Down...Last year, we ranked in the bottom 25 teams in the NATION in 3rd Down conversions....Yesterday, WMU was 8-19....that's the problem...you have to be able to get off the field on 3rd Downs and thus far, we haven't gotten better at it...other than that, I think we did play better on D...They scored their first touchdown on a trick play, and like bb said, we gave up less than 300 total yards....that's a win for us...

At least we got away from this 'Our division 1-AA team is better than Miss State' bullshit. How in the fuck can you even try to validate playing a 1-AA team as legit? I'm not saying that to say WVU is terrible for playing a 1-AA. Auburn does the same. I am saying that those games are what they are.
I'm also saying that hyping WVU and Louisville up as the two best teams in the country after playing two 1-AA schools ain't worth a picture of a whale and a dolphin gettin' it on. With all due respect.

wareagle I was comparing two teams, both who in my opinion are comparable. Both are Div 1A and not Div 1AA. WVU doesnt play any div 1AA teams on thier schedule.

Central Michigan won the MAC last year. WV doggies get all these directions confused sometimes. WMU won their division in the MAC last year. Since we play both Miss. St. and WMU this year, I guess we shall see which of them is better. Miss. St. was not a very good team last year nor did they look very good against LSU. Their defense was pretty good, but I couldn't decide if their defense was good or if LSU's offense was bad.

Well, they're not as bad as Duke. They got the shit kicked out of them by UConn for crying out loud.

I think every team in the Big East has improved except for Syracuse. They still suck.
UConn had questions at QB coming into this year. They have a pretty good tailback, and their defense is alright. At least they beat Duke yesterday, the Big East owns the ACC. Well, not really, but it's fun to say it.

Really not sure how a Defense sucks with 3 sacks 2 interceptions 10 hurries, gave up 32 yards rushing up by i don't know 38 points took all the starters out by mid 3rd quarter and only gave up 10 points after halftime??? If that sucks then Texas, Auburn, Ohio State, USC must really have problems this year....

I would whole heartedly agree that the BE owns DUKE, the entire ACC, we shall see sir, we shall see. FEAR THE TURTLE!

WVU fans:
I'm really liking the early -24.0 line @ Marshall this weekend. Please take off your homer hats and tell me will this be the shellacking I expect or is there some underlying rivalry here? Marshall got pummelled by Miami and almost got shut out; is Marshall's offense that bad or was Miami's defense that good?

Also incorrect. CMU won over Ohio in the champeenship. WMU and CMU are in the same division in the MAC.

Take the bet...Marshall came in w/ more talent last year and got thumped easily....The stadium will still be 60-40 Marshall-WVU (that's what I'm hearing) and the game is AT Marshall... I don't bet on WVU (EVER), but if I were you I'd like WVU at -24.

The only thing that could affect this spread is if the 1st unit gets taken out of the game early, the 2nd and 3rd units may lose some of the point spread. WV will easily be up on these guys by 28 points very early in the game. WV doesn't have the defense of Miami, but Marshall won't be able to stop our offense. They gave up big rushing totals to Miami last week, so they will have loads of trouble stopping our rushing attack.

Give the points...this is going to be UGLY...big reason WVU is going to have to win these "Tune Up " games big to keep pace in the polls...the other huge reason is WVU never wanted this team on their schedule...the Governor of the State got involved...they need to to prove over the next three years that they need to discontinue this farce of a rivalry game (They have played once since 1915) to put better teams on the scedule...

Look at Slaton's numbers from last year. The kid didn't play after half-time of a couple of games, and missed most of the Gator Bowl. That's what happens when you don't play shit for competition.

I was at the game Saturday...I understand what you're saying bb, but Devine, Sanders, and Brown are very good backups... They will keep the pedal to the metal offensively. I don't see any reason why those guys won't just add on to whatever lead we already have when Pat, Steve, and Owen leave the field...our explosiveness w/ the 2nd teamers is why I think we cover...

goose,
I agree with you regarding the back-ups on offense. It's our defense that concerns me. Our back-ups are young and inexperienced. They had those wide-eyes on Saturday.
