It goes to show that computers crunching numbers really care about SOS. I doubt seriously that the other major polls will be quite the same, close, but not quite. Teams are penalized when their opponents do not do as well as expected.

PS, I like the poll I posted better than Sagarin at this point.

I would think that GT, Cal, Georgia, Wisconsin and Auburn benefited from who they played in Sagarin's poll.

how can there be a computer poll after week 1? for example, would PSU fall b/c of the Um and ND embarrassments? they haven't even played yet.

Sagrain, and also Billingsley, start with the team being given a ranking from their formula. Sagrain uses his own system of tweaks and wiggles to come up with his weighted rankings, he fazes out the pre-season rankings by October. Billingsley starts each team with a the same ranking they ended with previous year, then resets the point value of that ranking.

I don't think any of the polls drop you for your future opponents. So, yes, PSU WILL be hindered in the coming weeks by UM and ND first week showings, but they have not been hindered by it yet. I didn't use hurt because most of them don't down grade you for winning even against inferior competition. Colley is the only one that will later in the season. I actually really like his since it is a straight "who did you play, how did you do, how did they do against who they have played before." It is totally meaningless until about week 5 or 6, but then by the end of the season it is the least biased about stating who got it done on the field.

I see Iowa is in there after a stellar performance against Northern Illinois. I have said it before and I will say it again....Sagarin Sucks.

I agree. Ohio State at #5? They have a lot more to prove to me before I'd even put them in the Top 10.

Thanks for the link. I have never heard of this poll before, but I will use it religiously whenever anyone criticizes the WV schedule. I'll come back with an "Oh yeah, well solecismic has us ranked as #9 for SOS, so eat that!"
