Geaux, leave Dave alone. He is suffering from short penis anxiety. Why would I be worried about your short penis, CFF?

Then how is it, pray tell, that their rivalry is not? BED are you ever positive about anything other than trash talking this Cassells guy? Yeah, you're right Geaux. I should just let him run roughshot over every non-SEC person in the room. I'm positive that if Cassells turned on LSU, you'd be standing to my left. But, my point, was that if Cassells thinks that Alabama is yesterday's news, how is Alabama / Auburn still the best rivalry game? I think that's a valid question. It's certainly not based on history or a storied series tradition because Cassells doesn't believe that football existed before 1996.

Dave, go to Alabama any day of the year, you will have a better understanding of this rivalry. UT hates Alabama, but I would have to concede that UT does not hate Alabama as much as Auburn does.

I'm sure it's a great rivalry (personally, I really enjoy the UF / FSU game so I get the in state rivalry thing). But it's all based on perspective. To quote The Bandit: "It all depends on which part of the country you're standing in as to just how stupid you are".
Also, just because it's in state doesn't always automatically make it a great rivalry. Purdue / Indiana is in state but I've never seen couches set ablaze over it. Just puttin' that out there.

UT and Vandy are in state. Other than 2 years ago, there hasn't been much of a rivalry. It always will depend on perspective. I am not a resident of Alabama (I have been), but I do understand that rivalry. OSU and Michigan is a wonderful rivalry, but in my opinion it pales to Alabama and Auburn. You are free to have your opinion, and Cassells is free to have his, right?

Exactly BED
The "best rivalry" argument is possibly the dumbest argument in the history of dumb arguments.
There is no best rivalry. They mean different things to different people.
Somebody from the south telling me, an Ohio boy, that the Alabama/Auburn game is a better rivalry than Ohio State/Michigan.........is beyond laughable. It's so ridiculous, I shouldn't even have to point it out.
But the app st dude cannot comprehend these things

I think that it depends on how good or how high the teams involved are ranked. OSU vs Michigan last year..... Huge implications makes the game better and more interesting to the rest of the nation. If Auburn and Alabama are both ranked in the top ten that would get more attention. Same with Florida Florida St.
As far as SC UCLA, if both teams are undefeated when they play (which could happen this year) I think that all of you would get more of the since of how the second largest city in the country is divided right down the middle. Even east coast transplants here pick a side.

Purdue-IU is more of a basketball rivalry. In Bloomington and W. Laf...it's giant. But to the north, most fans are of Michigan or ND. It also helps that Purdue hasn't had much of a pulse as of late in hoops. Still, you see license plates that are half IU half PU that say "A House Divided" on them. You don't see that shit in Michigan about Ohio State.
We all have our "my rivalry is the best" story and until you really are part of it, you can't understand it. I would argue that a rivalry so heated betwixt OUT of state teams is more vicious...b/c they aren't even close to one another yet the hatred knows no mileage.

Don, exactly, something osu and michigan fans don't seem to understand. IN STATE Got it IN STATE. I agree completely that Alabama Auburn, Texas Texas A&M, USC UCLA, Ok Ok State, USC Stanford, UCLA Stanford, Cal USC, Cal Stanford, Wa Wa State, Ga Ga Tech, Fl Miami, FSU Fl, Miami FSU, Co Co State, Va Va Tech, Mi Mi State, etc etc etc are the best IN STATE rivalries in college football. IN STATE - oh hell yes they are the best. Unless its Mi tOSU, or maybe USC ND, Tx Ok seem to have some good hate going on along with all the other rivalry games - there is not freaking best but one hell of a lot of damn good. Have a nice day

obviously you can't pinpoint one game. There are several that would fit the bill and could be legimate correct answers. OSU/Mich, Texas/OU, Aub/Ala, Flor/Georgia, Army/Navy, USC/UCLA, ask an Arkansas fan and they say Texas, not as big a deal to Texas fans though.

I have seen them with many schools. If a graphics company is making them, you could even get them for APSU and TN Tech.

ESPN runs 2 commercials I've seen with the OSU Michigan couple making out and saying "Without College Football" This isn't repulsive or something like that, and there is the commercial with the Alabama and Auburn fans in the Old Folks home where the Alabama guy knocks the Auburn fan off his crutches and cruises by him in the wheelchair...

You are right it's all about where you grew up or how your family raised you. I was raised a big time Buckeye fan, so there is no question tOSU -vs- Michigan is the greatest rivalry to me. The first time I ever heard my mother curse was during an tOSU vs Mich game. My grandmother threatened to make me sleep in the barn for bad mouthing Art Schlister for writing bad checks to cover his gamblng debts. etc, etc. I also had the experience of living in Montgomery Ala for one year when I was in the 6th grade. That Aub -vs- Bama rivalry is right up there to those folks. On the playground when we played touch football it was always Aub fans vs Bama fans. I can't remember the exact year I was there but I remember "the game", it was the year that Aub blocked 2 or three Bama punts and upset a heavily favored Bama team. They made bumper stickers that said: "Punt Bama Punt" My first post here on Sadovin's site, I stumbled over from CBS, my user name there is Woody Hayes.
cassels (that app state guy) you are still a B10 hating, SEC blowing, no team picking chickenshit!!!

akbuckeye - welcome to the board and yes cassels has come out of the closet - he's a USCe fan - USCGamecocks isn't happy and refuses to believe it. And he is still and always will be the ultimate SEC homer.

The Louisville and WVU game has become a pretty good one the last couple years and I think it will continue that way for a long time to come.

To answer the initial question at hand..It's gotta be the Michigan vs. Appy State rivalry..
Gosh..I said I'd stop doing that..

As far as a head banging hard playing football game. the LSU Auburn game is developing into a respectful rivalry. In the last six years it had been more than just the SEC West and it will be more this year. I think these two teams have a good respect for each other and leave it all on the field when they play. This is just my opinion but I know some LSU fans that feel the same way.

I like Army/Navy...but they need to move the venue....bring it to San Diego...rotate the stadium every year like the BCS CG used to be. Don't see myself getting out to Philly....San Diego....thats managable.

Man so many responses, gotta say though dave has it in for ya cassels or appy state or whatever the fuck you claim to be. SHUT THE FUCK UP seems appropriate. You are an ass whipe that does nothing but stir up trouble. AS sadovin said, have you ever been to a USC/UCLA game? Guess not, they can be some pretty pissed off fans at each other. I went with a friend from oceanside, he is a USC fan, and damn he was cruel at the game. I laughed my ass off at them. USC won that game thank God, or else it would have been a long ride home. Best rivalry is the opinion of each individual poster here period.
