Bama is only a 3.5 fav and the Harmon Forecast on CBS says a Bama victory of 26-24. This game should make a statement either way. Either Vandy can pull off the win and announce that they are here to play with the big boys, or Bama will dismantle the Dores and prove that Saban has already made an impact in 2 weeks of play and 8 mths of coaching. I will be disappointed if this game is only a 7 pt margin if Bama wins.

I wouldn't say that a Vandy win at home over a 3.5 point favorite would mean they are here to compete w/ the Big Boys. I think this game is way more important to the Tide than the Commodores...

I'm not sure how to convey my thoughts exactly...I think it could more of a statement game for Vandy, but more important to Alabama and Saban....does that make sense?

Goose - it's a conference game - it's important to both of them. For the record I'll take the W and be happy, especially after just squeaking by at home last year.
So on Sept 28th when you travel to USF, who will the game be more important to?

Every game Bama plays while under Saban will be the "most important". Bama will be this weeks Michigan. on a side note: Im not sure if I ready to hear 3 hours of "John Parker Wilson" beginning at 1130 a.m.

I was meaning that Alabama can't really pump its chest out by beating Vandy, but a loss would be more crushing to Alabama's season than a win would be a springboard for a terrific season for Vandy... I didn't mean it wasn't important. Like I said, I'm having trouble conveying what I mean....

The game is definitely more important to Vandy. You don't know how bad those guys want to go bowling. It's a must win for Alabama who wants to compete for championships again, but it is more important to Vandy's season.

You summed it up pretty well there goose. I agree. The upside is purely in Vandy's court; not a lot of upside for Bama but there is a lot of downside that could come up.

Vandy always gives Bama more than a mouthfull....kinda like what Ole Miss does with LSU - it's never easy!

Goose - it's all the Saban or Satan or SOS hype - it's clouds everything. To me it's a conference game on the home field of a team that damn near beat us in our house last year. I just want to leave with a W. I'm not going to be any happier or feel better about the season if we win by 3 or 23.

Goose: The last time that Vandy beat Bama was in 1984 I believe. They usually play Bama close (mostly b/c Alabama seems to play down to the competition in this game). The thing that some people are trying to hype is that Vandy has a significant # of returning starters & a returning qb who could be a threat. I don't thinktat Vandy's D will hold up their end though. I think that gave up 300+ yds. to the University of Richmond.

No, Jay Cutler WAS a bad ass. he's graduated. Their current qb hasn't proven squat compared to Cutler.

Bama will just have to play a lot of contain defense on him since he can escape the pocket under pressure. He has a great receiver, Earl Bennett, that is solid as well. For the record, I took Bama -3.5 too, but it's no lock. I am betting on Saban being an ass all year and running up scores on lesser opponents in an attempt to bring Bama's swagger back this season.

If Vandy is a statement game, I don't know what statement exactly one is trying to make.
Payback for being out "mathed" by nerds in middle school?

Running up the points is shamefull. I wish WVU wouldnt do that but it cant be helped when your 2nd and 3rd team can put more points on the board than Alabama.

Alabama is no longer a big boy. They may be again soon, but they are not yet back. Being that Vandy has not beaten Bama since 84, and they usually play them close, I will take Vandy. Western Carolina proved nothing, Vandy by 2.

I think someone laced your brownies cff. That is absolutely prepostorous; Bama by 14. Vandy's D will not contain the various receivers and tailbacks of Bama.
