What is up with all the one dimensional teams in CFB this year??? My goodness! Ohio State, Va Tech, just to name a few seem to have great defenses, but marginal (at best) offenses. Louisville, Michigan, amongst others seem to have superb offenses but NO defenses. I am just very surprised that such high profile programs can't produce competant units on both sides of the ball.
What are everyone's thoughts? Is it primarily a coaching issue???

Defense wins games and teams are building faster D's, so maybe it is something to say about defense's

The problem with the "defense wins games" strategy is...... what happens when you play another team with a great defense??? Then the better offense is usually the determining factor in the game! With the parody of talent and speed, overall team defenses are naturally improving at pace quicker than offenses. It seems like coaching on the offensive side of the ball is becoming more critical than ever. Just look at a team liks FSU. Speed and talent alone used to put points on the board for the Seminoles. But the times have a changed..... Speed and a spread offense won't work magic anymore.

no not coaching its a personnell and turnover issue tOSU lost their offensive playmakers.........and their offense sputters. no great secret Sorry, but I completely disagree. It's not that simple. tOSU had 3 f'ing points at halftime today against a marginal MAC opponent. I don't care WHO they lost (Ginn, Gonzo, Smith, etc.), they have infinite MORE talent than Akron. There is NO reason they should have been limited to 3 points. And it's not like the defense doesn't lose players EVERY year, but Tressel maintains a defensive machine year in and year out. Why does the offense sputter so often???

They have young players and their offense will suffer this year. It is no great mystery to me. You don't just replace the veteran players that we had, and not miss a beat. I expected tOSU to struggle to score points this yr. You should have as well
Boeckman is no world beater.......and had something like 6 passes before this yr. What exactly did you expect?

It's one thing to see a production fall off...... It's another to put up 3 first half points against Akron. The offensive line has been atrocious despite returning both bookends in Boone and Barton. They have been dominated up front despite having outrageous size and power advantages in BOTH games. Did I expect Boeckman to put up worldbeater numbers??? Of course not. But did I expect Wells x2 and Saine to consistently move the ball? Yes. Did it happen? No. Did I expect Rory Nicol to jump offsides 23 times? No. Mental mistakes, blocking technique and scheme, and offensive playcalling is coaching. Not a matter of losing skilled players....

I wouldn't rate Michigan as a offensive powerhouse right now. They only scored 7 points today. They have lost thier heart.
