Just b/c I haven't bragged in a while... He's currently hitting .420 so far this season for the 20-6 (5-1 in the Big East) WVU baseball teams.. he leads the Big East in hits at 47 and doubles with 16... He also has 3 Home Runs and a fielding percentage of .948 (not very good for a SS.. 6 errors in 26 games)... but, pretty good Sophomore Season I'd say...

That is awesome Goose.
One of my buddies brothers is on WVU as well (he plays LF and used to play C). I actually played with him in High School (he is a senior I believe). Last I heard he just went over .400 as well

Justin Parks right? he's a great leadoff hitter... plays a pretty good LF for a kid that grew up and came to WVU as a catcher... but they had to get his bat in the lineup, so he switched to the outfield... They're playing pretty good ball at this moment.. Leading the Big East after sweeping UCONN in Storrs and taking 2 of 3 at Villanova...

Yep. He is a great hitter, and was outstanding in H.S. He was a great catcher then too (and helped young BTB as a pitcher).
Apparently he has been scouted by a couple of teams (his brother told me this yesterday).
WVU is playing some good ball too.

Great stuff guys. My nephew is pitching for Georgia Perimeter College, but has missed most of the year with a strained pitching shoulder. Looks like he will get his first action this weekend if the rain holds off. Had a great year last year and am hoping a major college gets him.
Good stuff Goose. I wish him the very best.

The rule for baseball is that you have to stay three years right? That would mean that scouts should be talking to him now (is he a true or redshirt soph?).
That is really cool Goose. Congrats to him!

Congrats to him! he's a true Soph... he isn't eligible to be drafted until after his Junior Year (next year)... I don't believe the Scouts are allowed to talk to him just yet... The 3 year rule is a good one (IMO)... you don't go pro right outta high school, you go to school for 3 years... the only loopholes are Junior Colleges... if you go JUCO, you can get drafted after 2 years I believe... and if you turn 21 before your Sophomore season starts, you can get drafted after only 2 years of Div. 1 baseball...

I too like the three year rule. Think it does a good job of keeping baseball settled (unlike basketball). After another really good year your brother should be looking at a nice draft slot. Thats all good stuff man!

Thats all good stuff man! we're hoping he has another good year... if he has a good summer (with either Team USA or in the Cape) and another good year next year... he could get a nice paycheck....pretty exciting...

I've been to a couple of WhiteCaps games before. Not a bad stadium.

if he has a good summer (with either Team USA or in the Cape) when does summer ball begin and do you have an update where your brother will be this summer? if he is on the Cape, you will have to let me know as I venture down there (for me its down) 5-6 times a summer.

He leaves this weekend for Cary, NC to tryout for Team USA... he'll be down there for 2 weeks... if he makes the team, he'll stay down there and play with them all Summer (including trips to Japan and Canada over the summer).... if he doesn't make Team USA, he'll report to the Brewster Whitecaps of the Cape Cod League for the duration of the summer... either way, he'll have a great summer of baseball and get to play in front of a ton of scouts....

Just heard from my brother... He had a good 10 days in tryouts but wasn't selected for Team USA... He was a little bummed, but was excited to play in the Cape Cod League ASAP.... He wasn't disappointed about not making it, but said he was skeptical as to whether the team was pre-determined before the tryouts... They kept an infielder from Clemson that had 1 hit in the entire tryout and didn't play the last 4 days... when the coaches told him... they said they kept that kid b/c he hit left-handed and they wanted a left handed bat... Jedd told me he wasn't sure why that's so... if you can hit, you can hit... teams don't pinch hit for lefty-righty situations for good hitters... but oh well... he's pumped for the Brewster Whitecaps and he starts playing there as soon as he gets there...

Well Goose, I'm sure your brother will at least come out of the situation better than when he entered it. Best of luck to him in the Cape Cod league. Keep us posted. It's nothing to sneeze at.

ya.. he's excited... The Whitecaps still have around 40 games left... so, he'll get a lot of action in front of the scouts... He was still disappointed... He outhit all but one middle infielder during tryouts, made zero errors, and won a situational hitting competition... He played well, and he said he heard really good things from the scouts down there... so, it was worth it... he just feels like he had no chance from the getgo...

Wasn't there, but we all know that politics sometimes rear their ugly heads in sports. Sounds like this might be a similar case.

sorry to see that he didn't make the US team, but he will be playing in front of tons of scouts... I will definitely make it down for some games. Let me know for certain when you are going... I try to make the trek and we'll grab some beers or something.
