Athletic director Mike Bobinski said Monday that Xavier would move as swiftly as possible "without rushing" to find a successor for former coach Sean Miller. Miller was asked whether there was a candidate he would recommend to replace him as Xavier's next coach. Miller said it wasn't his place to make that call, but that he thought the world of assistant coach Chris Mack. "I certainly have a lot of faith and confidence in Chris. He's an excellent coach and he'll be with me if he's not here," Miller said. The coaching vacancy is certainly an alluring opportunity, considering Xavier's potential on the court and the salary that comes with the job. Miller, who was earning about $1 million annually, leaves the Musketeers "on the cusp of our greatest basketball ever," Bobinski said.

If the top assistant is really that good, it would make sense to promote him and keep the continuity. He's had a hand in recruiting these kids so you know he should be a solid recruiter.
