Anybody watching? Strasburg goes first, but who knows if the Nats will be able to sign him. They don't have the cash to throw $50M at him and still put a team on the field around him in the future.

1. Nationals Stephen Strasburg San Diego State RHP 2. Mariners Dustin Ackley North Carolina OF 3. Padres Donavan Tate Cartersville (Ga.) HS CF 4. Pirates Tony Sanchez Boston College C 5. Orioles Matthew Hobgood Norco (Calif.) HS RHP 6. Giants Zack Wheeler East Paulding, Dallas, Ga. RHP 7. Braves Mike Minor Vanderbilt LHP 8. Reds Mike Leake Arizona State RHP
Some guy from Missouri was a top 5 talent guy by most, must be signability why we haven't seen him picked yet.

The Pads choice is interesting b/c he has a full ride to UNC for football. What's he like more?

Miz,
Is Jacob Turner, the kid that you were talking about? If so, he looks like he could be solid.

The Orioles pick was a pretty big reach IMO, even with the signability factor taken into account

It was some guy named Kyle Gibson, Baseball America had him rated the 5th best prospect. www.baseballamerica.com/today/draft/draft-preview/2009/268178.html

From what little I know of Ackley, I really like him. The M's really need an OF with a little pop in his bat.

Yeah, he probably won't hit as many homers with a wood bat, but a swimsuit model would have more power than our current outfielders. EDIT: I hear we just drafted a SS from Florida; maybe all these stinkin' Gators on here can actually do some good and fill me in on him.

Wow! This is huge for Strasburg, this should give him a lot of confidence taking his school into the CWS...wait, never mind.

Maybe it's b/c the Pirates draft a Pitcher or Catcher every year with their 1st pick... Alvarez is the only position player they've taken at the top in like 15 years it seems...

Haven't heard much yet.... he got a pamphlet from some agency that reps Bronson Arroyo, Kris Benson, Tom Glavine, Jenny Finch, and Phil Mickelson... I think it's called Gaylord Group or something like that.... he hasn't had any formal discussions yet... I'm not even sure if he's allowed...

I know in football and basketball, you can't talk with an agent until you declare for the draft. Not sure about Baseball.
