Former NBA coaches Reggie Theus and P.J. Carlesimo have emerged as two of the leading candidates for the USC basketball job, independent sources familiar with the situation said. Another source said Lakers assistant Jim Cleamons has already talked with USC Athletic Director Mike Garrett, whose football and basketball programs are under NCAA investigation. There were no indications that Garrett was close to making a decision.

Are there any "chokers" on the team?

I loved watching Theus play for the Magic in their inaugural season. Good player and a good guy.

The problem with both these guys is that after two decent seasons they could be looking at NBA jobs.
USC would probably like a little continuity for awhile.

Theus maybe, but I think Carlesimo would have a tough time getting an NBA HC job considering his W's and L's aren't real good and he's been given a number of chances already.

I think Theus would be a good hire for USC. He was a very good recruiter at NMSU, and was able to sign a few high profile guys to go there like Herb Pope. He's also a solid coach, but the NBA might just pry him away again, still I think he would last at USC for at least 5 years. PJ Carlisimo has actually had a fair amount of success in college. He led Seton Hall to the National Title Game where they lost in OT to Michigan and Glen Rice. Only problem with him IMO might be his age, and wanting to get on the road and recruit. I would hire Theus of the two, and honestly there probably isn't any better candidate.
