Last Friday I informed all of you that my house was flooded by a malfunctioning washing machine. We got all the water cleaned up and the house dried out for the most part. Well yesterday morning I had just entered the bathroom and turned on the shower. As I was standing in front of the stool doing my business I hear a loud crack and then what sounded like firecrackers going off. Everything went black. I finished my business in the dark and then found my cell phone and used the light from the phone to see around the house. It was still raining like crazy and lightning was popping off everywhere. I did not see any smoke but knew that something really bad had happened. Then my son came running out of his room obviously shaken. He said sparks had flown out of the wall socket next to his bed. We went to his room and I found no scorch marks on the socket so then I went to the circuit breaker panel and half the breakers had been tripped. I cycled the main breaker and still no power. I finally found a working flashlight and made my way upstairs and looked around, no damage visible. I then climbed up into the attic and that is where I found some amazing shit. Lightning had struck the TV antenna and come into the house through the coax cable. The booster that I had on the antenna was laying on the floor of the attic smoldering. The lightning had blown it completely off the wall and the coax had been ripped from the connectors. I unplugged everything in the attic and headed back downstairs. The old phone that runs off of the phone company power was not working so I am assuming that the phone circuits were fried too. I also discovered that my wife's treadmill will now only run at full speed. My son said it is God's way of telling her to run faster. So far we have lost a TV, DVD player, Treadmill, Attic Fan, Satellite Receiver, Converter box, Antennae booster and tripped every GFI outlet in the house. Only two more days till friday, I am curious what other shit God has in store for me this week.

Man, sounds like you need a vacation. I remember those Missouri t-storms some of them are pretty bad.
Does insurance cover any of this since all this happened because of a storm

That sucks, feel for you Tiger. Knew a guy that had a chain link fence that went around his back yard and came up to both sides of the house, shape of a rectangle. Lightning hit the fence and it traveled both ways and hit both sides. Blew every single electrical outlet and plugged in appliance in the house... Hang in there, it can only get better, right?

Surge suppressors are a great thing.... Oh wait the Big 12 does not play defense sorry. On a serious note, I feel for you man. We lost a computer to lightening, last year. Last night we had a storm come through that had so much lightening that I thought we were under artiliery attack. I am supprised that some one in the neighborhood did not have a house fire from lightening strike.

Sounds like God's a KU fan to me. I always figured, nice to have proof though.
On a more serious note... that sucks. As said before, things have to get better!

Insurance will cover all but $500.00 (deductable). We should come out alright. I am just hoping that nothing else happens. I am sure to discover some other items that were damaged. I have 3 computers and only 1 of them was damaged by the lightning strike. The most pressing thing right now is the attic fan. The heat and humidity will be horrible for the next few days which means I will be replacing a vent fan in a very hot attic. Listen to me whine and bitch, I'm starting to sound like a Jayhawk!

When I went out to check on the house I could swear I saw a Jayhawk running away with cinged feathers and holding a lightning rod in his beak. ;D

Just warn us if you look out side and see this cloud formation. I saw it once in 2004 and Florida got screwed by mother nature all summer.

Now you've gone and done it. Run, TP, and don't look back! Okay, now with the lighter side out of the way: I feel for you, TP. Fortunately what was destroyed can be replaced. The main thing is you and your family are safe. All of you will be in my prayers.

TP - if you have any tall trees near your house - cut them down now.

TP - if you have any tall trees near your house - cut them down now. I will do one better. The pole with the antenna on it is going bye bye this weekend. I had already cut most of the huge trees down that were up against the house. I left a few that are within 20 feet or so.
