I ask, as apparently I have a hairline cracked tooth which is causing me some major discomfort and have to have this done. The quote seems a bit high, but maybe it is the cost of such a thing.
It is broken down as follows:
Root Canal- $888.00 Prefab post and core- $300.00 Crown, porcelain/metal- $1100.00
Totaling basically $2200.00
If anyone can tell me how this compares, I would greatly appreciate your feedback. I have looked on line and am researching, but word of mouth never hurts either.
My insurance seems like it will cover approximately $1000.00 of the cost, so am looking to cut back on out of pocket expense.
Appreciate your time and thoughts.

I just had to replace a porcelain crown without the root canal and the bill came to about $1500... my insurance covered half of it.

This is one of those where I am so thankful for free healthcare. I hav e to have a tooth pulled next month. my sister said lucky bastard, cause the porcelain things they made before she said would have run around 2 grand if I had to pay for it.

My buddy is a cosmetic dentist who did two teeth implants and it was 2000 a piece but that is a highly invasive surgery. A root canal is the hollowing out of a tooth with a filling and cap. No way it should be that much. I know this was a touchy subject but do you have dental? If not I could see it being expensive but not that much. Is this a dentist you have used before? Was he recommended? Get a second opinion.

My bad I just reread where you stated you have dental. Again this seems like a gouge in pricing. Get a second oponion. Just ask another dentist what they think, a hairline crack may be easier to just pull it and replaced. If you go that route do not go with a bridge. Save for an implant. The best part of getting an implant is you do not have a timetable and it helps protect your jawbone and keep it strong and healthy. You could save for a year. The downside is insurance does not cover that.

It depends on the dentist. My wife has a different dentist than me, and the price you are quoting is very similar to what she paid. I have no dental insurance and had to have 2 root canals and porcelain crowns last year. Each cost me $1,100, for a total of $2,200. I live in Southern California, so the prices aren't cheap out here. By the way, my dentist graduated from USC's dental school.

As far as my dentist, yes I go to him as my friend's wife works for him and he did my last root canal. It was the cost of the post and the porcelain crown I was questioning more than anything. I have looked on line and asked folks here, and hate to say, it is in the ballpark for what it costs out here, although, I did find another dentist who is $300.00 cheaper. But damn, it is expensive. Guess I am glad I have dental, just didn't think I was going to have to cough up another $1000.00 on top of what insurance covers. Guess it is the price one pays to keep his teeth.
I appreciate the responses so far, and if there are any more suggestions, please don't be shy.
