My hatred for the Cubs has to do with a good natured rivalry. Respect (a bit) but mostly history and tradition.
My hatred for the Phillies, however, has to do with the Phillies Phans being some of the WORST fans in the history of sports. We hear it from football fans all the time but today is a perfect example. Fans were flashing some sort of green light in the eyes of Cardinals batters. Then there is the battery chucking.
Ah well...

Oh wow..I thought it would be the other way around, as in, I thought you would call Cubs fans the worst fans in at least baseball, because, well, a heck of a lot of people do, can't say that some of them don't get on my nerves though..

GoBig,
I've never been to a game at Wrigley. I've heard that it can be quite brutal but have never seen it myself.
As a born Cardinal fan, I am genetically predisposed to hate the Cubbies. But, really, I look forward to the games both at Wrigley and Busch. And the "hate" is really just a very intense dislike.
Philly, that's hate.

Wow I just saw that on SportsCenter. They didn't even find the guy who was pointing the laser at them.

Being a Phillies and Eagles fan, unfortunately, I can attest to the fact that there is a strong faction of the fans from the actual city of Philadelphia that are just assholes. Gives a bad rap for the rest of the pretty decent people. Most are just passionate and loud, while the rest are just dirt bags.

toph,
I think you are on to something. I've known plenty of Eagles and Phillies phans who were in the military and lived away from the actual city. Most were great folks and passionate but not whack-a-do about their teams.
Is it something about the city itself?

Don't get me wrong, there are some things that I love about the city like the history and the cheesesteaks ;D. For the most part it is a great working class city, but unfortunately, many of those people have such a chip on their shoulder. Many call it grit, but to me they just have an "us against the world" mentality. The city doesn't have the power of NYC and Washington which it is sandwiched in b/t and for some reason these people feel like they have to prove something. Unfortunatley, they prove themselves in the wrong way.

The Military Airlift flights used to be out of Philly and we'd get in at about 1 in the afternoon, stow our stuff and head downtown because our flight wouldn't leave until 2 or 3 the next morning.
Independence Hall.
Cheesesteaks.
Great city. Being a history nut AND a lover of food, it was the perfect environment for me.

It really is a party there, along with the entertainment of some good baseball. If you ever get the chance to go to Wrigley, I bet you would enjoy it, even being a Cards fan. I can't really say much about St. Louis, as I've never visited there.
