Tonight at Midnight EDT is the deadline for underclassmen to sign with their teams. Many picks, especially Scott Boras's clients (Strasburg and #2 pick Dustin Ackley) remain unsigned as of now. It should be an interesting evening.

any more word on Strasburg... I know he was offered a signing bonus of 12.5 million... gotta say, I think if Boras told me not to take it, I would fire him on the spot and be my own agent and take it... followed by cashing the check in ones and rolling around in it

I'd have a lawyer and CPA on retainer to look over a contract and advise me of tax issues. I think I could negotiate a contract that would suffice for me and my situation. I think Ray Allen has done this in the NBA. However, none of the Player's Associations like that idea for fear that the market may not increase that way.

Troy Vincent did it for years in the NFL as I recall
Fuck, Scott Boras, he's the anti-christ IMO.
I hope Strasburg comes to his senses and signs.

Fuck, Scott Boras, he's the anti-christ IMO. I have a very unpopular opinion about Scott Boras. I don't really blame him for what he does. He has a job to do, and he does it well. Plus, I think that he actually does care about his clients. I think that what he said when Nick Adenhart died was heartfelt. Now, I do agree with you about him being the anti-Christ in terms of what is good for the game of baseball... the skyrocketing cost to field a team has to come to an end at some point.

Baseball would be better if they'd blackball all Scott Boras clients... You sign with Boras and start demanding out-of-this-world money... you won't get signed.. BY ANYONE... good luck in the Independent League...
I'm well aware this will never happen... but it'd be a good start....

Can anyone argue that?!!

Nope... it's not entirely his fault... b/c some teams always step up and pay his steep demands...

Unfortunately, that's the collusion that built the union to be as strong as it is today.

Good to see the Nationals sign this kid. I am not sure that he will be a savior, but at least the fans have some hope, and something to cheer for with this kid in their system (and a big trading piece).
As far as Boras... I am not a fan. The guy gets his clients a lot of money, but when one of the first things mentioned about a free agent or a player that might be traded is that they are a client of Boras it is having negative effects on the game.
The entire draft system in baseball is messed up. Without a slotting system, a lot of talented players drop way more than they should because signability is a big issue (which it shouldn't be). That is not to mention the fact that foreign players are not required to enter the draft. That means the teams with the most money can set up their 'camps' in talent rich areas and sign the kids when they are 16 years-old and keep them under their control for years before they would be draft eligible.
