Assuming the great Theo can pull this off, does he help the Sox?
If he cannot pull this off, where does he end up?

done... Billy plays for the Sox... now, what does this do for the Sox? Does he still have it? I have always been a huge fan of Billy Wagner as he was one of the nicest guys I ever met. In fact, I have a baseball he signed on my TV stand, next to one by David Ortiz... George Steinbrener is in a box somewhere... but was impressed by George actually.

Good Luck. If he can regain his stuff he'll help, but that's far from a guarantee. Not much of a Wagner fan myself.

Not sure I love a 38 year-old closer (who has pitched 2 innings this year) and is coming off Tommy John surgery. If he is in fact healthy he will be fairly good as normal (I saw he hit 96 MPH on the gun the other day). Not a bad move though because of the extremely low risk (2 PTBNL). The key to the deal was to drop the team option, and KEEP arbitration. If someone signs Wagner next year the Sox will get draft picks for losing someone to free agency (could be lucky and he is a 'A' player and they get 2 draft picks).

saw on ESPN that he is planning on retiring... this saddens me as I am a huge fan of Billy Wagner... not only a great pitcher, but he was one of the few down at Spring Training that would seek out fans to give autographs and talk to you instead of having to be hounded for one.

Seems like a real down to earth guy.... I for one am very impressed that he worked so hard to return to baseball only to retire. I remember hearing when he got hurt that he would not be able to pitch this year...Billy could have easily just sat at home and collected his $12 million this year.

That is good that he is staying around. Any man that can pitch with that much tobacco in his mouth is a hero to me
