rumors flying around up here about Paps being traded in the offseason... things have really picked up recently on these rumors, even though the Sox are still playing.
they say Bard will be closing and Wagner will be 8th inning... Bard has a ton of talent and was actually the one they were planning on being the closer of the future as Paps was supposed to be a starter.
that being said... rumors of him being traded in a package to Seattle for Felix... any thoughts on this.

Papelbon has seemingly had a lot of really scary saves. A lot more base runners than a few years ago, even though his stuff still looks good.
I think Papelbon could be traded, but I think they have to get a front line starter in return (Felix as you stated would be an awesome deal).
Bard has nasty stuff (100MPH stuff along with a nasty breaking ball). He needs to learn some more control though.
I don't think Papelbon is untouchable though.

Papelbon struggles mightily when it isn't a save situation... and struggles a little less when it isn't a dire situation... but when it comes down to having the bases loaded with 1 out in the 9th in a 1 run game... I'll take him over anyone... and that is just my opinion.

I've heard that Prince Fielder will be traded to the Sox this offseason. Apparently, it would be a package consisting of John Lester, and Clay Bucholtz. I doubt though that the Sox are dumbe enough to do something like that.

Just what the Sox need, another 1st baseman

it actually does make sense... how much are you going to get from the combination of Lowell and Ortiz... if Lowell is event there. Youk can play third base most of the time... and Prince first base... Ortiz and Lowell can share DH and Prince can even DH some and have Lowell play third and Youk first. Kotchman will be lost and not with the Sox more than likely next year.
I have my doubts that Lester will go anywhere though... you have a better shot at getting Beckett than Lester. Sox love Lester.

So do they not think that they could turn Papelbon into a starter?

So do they not think that they could turn Papelbon into a starter? I would say they have given up on that thought. He tried to be a starter, but had some arm trouble when throwing that many pitches (in spring training a few years ago). They put him back in the bullpen and he has been really good. I think they like Beckett and Lester in the rotation along with Dice-K, Bucchollz and Wake for now. They might think about trying to turn Bard into a starter since he hasn't been in the pen too long (I think he was a starter in the minors).

So do they not think that they could turn Papelbon into a starter? I don't think you could talk Papelbon into that at this point. As much as I love Paps, he is a hot headed punk... just one that I am glad currently wears a Sox jersey.

I'm not sure that you will ever see Wake start another game in a Sox jersey... sadly. I think he will either retire or just pitch from the pen from now on. I also think that the Sox are really sold on Bard being a reliever... having him there really solidifies a really good bullpen. Plus, with Papelbon testing free agency after next year, they are counting on Bard to fill his position if they don't resign him.
