My favorite baseball player of all-time will return for a 22nd season at the age of 40 to play with the Mariners. sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4644525He has done a great job helping the young Mariners team off the field, even if the on field contributions are lessening.

I'm not sure I like this move; Jr. is a great clubhouse presence and can be a nice left-handed pinch hitter, but I think we could have also gotten that from someone who could play in the field. I'd also like to see him go out on a "high" after finishing last pretty well, but that's up to him. Hopefully it works out, but I would have preferred they go in another direction.

I can see that Husky...
But the contract is 2 million dollars. That is well below the median average salary and the Mariners have spent a good deal of money in recent years. He isn't going to break the bank, and guys that they could have signed for 2 million dollars would certainly not have the impact Griffey would on and off the field in my opinion...

Yeah, I'm not saying it's an awful move, but this means they will likely have to get rid of Ryan Langerhans, who put up similar offensive numbers, (slightly worse power) could play in the outfield, and made only $1M. But perhaps the increased revenue from ticket and merchandise sales will be able to make up for that.

Griffey is going to be in the league past 2010.
